there is no reason that these children should have been charged as adults over a high school scuffle, point blank
these 6 boys were pushed and pushed and pushed, sooner or later anyone would snap. no one was charged when the black children were on the recieving end of the harrassment - so why should they have to go to prison for 2 decades just because the current victim is white? Justice is not being served here, not on an equal platform. - either everyone should go to jail or no one.
and I will also be wearing black tomorrow
I only wish I could be there
Tara j has no clue what she's talking about - the ignorant a@@ white people who hung nooses on the "white" tree should be charged with hate crimes - they are the ones who took it to the racial level.

A great deal but only by whites do i experience it. I am currently living in a Jena 6 type atmosphere in a bigoted town where there is the law, but then there's the way these bigots do things. I've had to file several civil rights actions that are pending.
That Jena 6 situation, if I could be there I would be there to march and speak out tomorrow, Sept. 20. It's obvious the Black boys were treated entirely different, with such racism and prejudice than those white boys. When they hung the nooses [the white boys] they should have been expelled for a long time and hatecrime charges filed against them, but oh no; they were excused and treated much differently, with more favortism than the Black boys.
I have come to the sad conclusion that bigotry just simply will not ever disappear and it's mostly practiced time and time again by sadly, whites as usual. Now it is rampade by other races who despise whites. Let's face it, whenever you hear about racism or blatant outrageous acts of discrimination, 98% of the time it's done by whites, yet they continue to deny, deny, deny, and not because they doubt the truth, but it's hard to admit when your race is responsible for most unrest and racial conflict in not just America, but pretty much worldwide.
I've seen that most of the time, they just don't care but know they are the problem with most all racism. I just exist anymore, really [I mean with them]. I cannot wait until Armageddon.

I think the kids who started this with the noose should have been charged with committing a hate crime! But, they were not beating anybody up!
Two wrongs don't make a right!!!! These Jena 6 boys ganged up on ONE kid? Not good! The reason they were charged is because they turned to violent and unfair actions! The Jena 6 allowed the anger and discrimination take control of them. In my state, it wouldn't matter what race you were, if one had done what these kids done, they would have been tried as an adult with the same charges that were on these Jena 6 kids. I am very angered that these kids may not even get any punishment for their crime! It angers me that the state has backed down because they are complaining that they are being picked on because of their race. That is not right. These kids committed a violent crime, six beating up one kid, they deserved the original charges. And the kids with the noose, should be in jail too!

I agree with this black guy:

--
OK, having said that, much of the mainstream reporting on this story has been misleading, irresponsible and inflammatory.
No one mentions that Mychal Bell's clueless public defender was black. No one mentions that there were no black jurors because of the 50 people who responded to the more than 100 summons, none were black. No one mentions that Bell was already on probation for battery relating to a Christmas day incident in 2005. No one mentions that Bell was adjudicated (convicted) of two other violent crimes in 2006 and one charge of criminal damage to property. No one mentions that Bell's father acknowledged he moved back to Louisiana in February (after seven years in Dallas) to supervise his son because of the "Jena Six" mess. No one mentions that Bell starred on the Jena High football team while constantly jeopardizing/violating his seemingly flimsy probation.
This was all talked about in open court during a bond hearing for Bell, and a newspaper in Alexandria, La., wrote about it. Just about everybody else has pretty much ignored the "other side" of the story. Including the fact that not one witness — black or white, and there were 40 statements taken — connected the jumping/beatdown of the white student (Dec. 4) to the noose incident (Sept. 1).
No one mentions that a black U.S. Attorney, Donald Washington, investigated the "Jena Six" case and held a town-hall meeting explaining that there was no evidence connecting the jumping/beatdown to the noose incident.

Like a lot of things, this all started because blacks wanted to go where they weren't wanted (the 'White Tree').
Blacks can segregate themselves but Whites can't.
I hope they get the maximum sentence.
Regardless of the outcome, this will not be their last encounter with the justice system for these thugs. Statistics don't lie.

This shows that no matter what people are telling us that we should forget about the past, we should NEVER FORGET, for if we do, history, as you see in the Jena6 case will repeat itself. I myself have never encountered racism. I only read about it here on yahoo answers and see it on the news and I'm 30 something.

I think kids can be cruel. The justice system should never have been involved in THESE incidents which started almost three years ago and began with white kids hanging nooses from trees outside the school because some black kids sat on a "whites only" bench. To White Truth, I am sorry that Black people have been giving you a rough way to go. No one deserves to be mistreated for anything other than the way they handle other people. The chick that hurt your feelings, send her to me. I've got your back.

If they are let off free, then white people better damn well demand that those six whites in West Virginia accused of kidnapping that black lady and torturing her for a week in their trailer go free. That sounds about fair to me.

I think the six young men should be punished for their crimes. Six men beating one man is not acceptable no matter what the motivation. Racism will always continue if we rally and support hate crimes. What lessons are we teaching the younger generations? It's sad. Good luck. 2D
