well that's the way it is if you are on benefits.. once you are their you fall into the benefit trap.. you will find you cant earn as much as what you get.
if you have a rent and tax Bennie then you will be able to rent a place for alot more than you could afford. then once you see what its worth and you income you are soon to realise you cant earn as much if you don't find a high paying job. so thus you get stuck , no matter what you do you cant get out.
it become a vicious circle. believe it or not. the system will have you trapped in it. we have close friends trying to get out of it , they got in when his company folded and he was laid off work. now they are trying to find work or move. if he does one days work to assist in his income. the system takes away a day and a half's work money. for every pound he could earn's he loose's 2 pounds . how do you find that to be a good system
i agree with you mate i have just seen this for myself with my friends. it is realy rediculess to see how it happens
listen to KJ she is correct . this is what my friends are suffering with thier kids

I used to think exactly like you. I had a self employed husband who worked long hours because it was for himself. I had a fantastic job - in order to achieve that job I had studied and studied, at the same time as caring for my family and working full time. Then crash, marriage broke up and within a year I had contracted an illness (not a bad back!!) from which I will eventually die.
Now I am on benefit - maybe all those years of working and being stopped horrendus tax and NI is giving me a little back -but nothing will give me back my health, and yet I have an active brain that is used to being active. I know there are scroungers on benefit who could work and contribute. But remember and be thankful - the other man's grass isn't always greener.

Your not supporting people on benefits your supporting yourself. You can't get benefits unless you have worked for a period of time that's what are national insurance is for. So if Ive paid that whilst working why shouldn't we be able to claim benefits after we paid national insurance. I do think that working is better though it keeps you busy, mind stimulated & your better of fiancally. I just think that there may be times we would need to claim benefits & it should be available if the need arose.

I don't have a job right now. I was laid off last month because the company I worked for sold out and ceased operations. I am collecting un-employment. YOU aren't supporting me. The mere pittance they give me is money that I, and my employers have paid in. Even at that, they aren't giving me anything.....I have to jump through a number of different hoops to continue getting it. Some of them are unreasonable, like them expecting you to look for jobs that pay a lot less than you can realistically expect to live on.

I'm on disability benefit and if I could work I would be. I would be better off working as I only get £241 a month. But the spongers and fakers out there really get my goat.

Of course you are missing something. Been going on for a long time. The wide ones called it "the jam roll", and they still worked- so obtaining a double income. Yours plus your wifes income would still be below theirs.

I can assure you working will bring more money and greater satisfaction. State hand outs are a pittance compared to what you can earn. People that are on them struggle to get by.
