Horizontal asymptotes happen when the derivative is zero.

f(x) = x^5 + 4x^2 + 4 so f'(x) = 5x^4 + 8x = x(5x^3 + 8)

f'(x) = 0 for x=0 and x = -curt(8/5) (that's cubic root). That's where the horizontal asymptotes are.
