YES... Blackwater has been a bunch of cowboys running rough shod over all the citizens and the military in Iraq... they have even had runins' with the U.S. military... Blackwater is an entity unto itself.

Nope, All US citizens and those working for US contractors in Iraq are under the military UCMJ.

They have been since 2006, when Congress included that provision in the FY 2007 Defense Authorization.

They are a private security firm so they do not take orders from any government authority. Thy are hired by the DOJ though so they are assigned by them. Blackwater is NOT a mercinary group as some might have you believe, they are there to protect the lives of diplomats and others they only engae in violence when there is an attack, they do not engage the enemy as aggressors unless attacked.

Other corps like Dyncorp, and Triple Canepey are hired by private companies as security for their exects and workers. These people have a right to defend themselves and their clients.

Not really, for the last year or so compliance to The Military Code Of Conduct, has mandatory for all mercenaries operating in Iraq.

I do not know if this has ever been enforced before now.

I believe that the Iraqi government has threatened to revoke their "license to operate". One can assume they are operating withing the law if they are licensed.
