In the NBA playoffs last year they all wore shirts that said "Beat Detroit" and now in the Indians-Tigers series I've seen a few of those shirts popping up, not to mention the constant "Detroit sucks" chants.

Why not actually cheer for YOUR team rather than cheering AGAINST the other team? Seriously every other team has chants like "Let's go Tigers" or "Let's go Yankees" but these idiots in Cleveland just seem so preoccupied with beating Detroit that it seems they're more excited about Detroit losing than they are about Cleveland winning.

I guess it's a compliment?

What about the Super Bowl?

So was it drunk fans that designed the t-shirts and handed them out to the 20,000+ fans in the arena?

All of the 20,000+ fans were drunk? All those 10 year old kids I saw wearing the shirts were drunk?

If that's the case then that's a different problem altogether.

I don't think I sounded bitter at all. Can you point out what about that question came off as bitter or angry?

Anyway Detroit sports teams have had enough success in recent years that I can handle the Indians getting their shot.

My point was just that they have such a hang up about Detroit teams.

A couple more things:

Heckling players has nothing to do with what I'm talking about. That goes on in every ballpark in the country. Also I'm not saying Cleveland fans are rude or anything like that.

As far as Detroit fans wearing "beat Cleveland" shirts, that was a mockery of the shirts the Cleveland fans were wearing. I can tell you that neither the Pistons fans nor the players really took the Cavs seriously in that series. And that's why they lost. We looked at it as just another easy series on the way to a much anticipated rematch with the Spurs. The Cavs played harder than the Pistons and just wanted it more. But I honestly still think the Pistons are a much better team.

No one actually lives in Detroit

I don't live in the city nor do any of the players.

And the Pistons Arena isn't even close to the D, it's in Auburn Hills.

I have driven through Ohio though, and I must say I was half tempted to drive my car into a ditch

Cleveland has been bridesmaids to our teams for a long time. They need desperately to win the World Series, like the Bosox and Chisox did. After they win,the hate for our Motown teams will subside.I say,go Tribe and do it for your city-PLEASE!-The Tigers will return!

Because Cleveland sports teams and the Ohio State Buckeyes have had a beef with Detroit and teams that call themselves "blue and maize" forever.

And those "Detroit Sucks" chants, theyre true. Detroit does suck. As for the city itself,I will never go there again. Its no compliment, its just that Cleveland fans show their team pride more I guess. The Beat Detroit shirts that were passed out at the Q in the East Finals were because Detroit had beaten us in 7 games last year, and we wanted revenge.

I guess somebody is a little bitter, but then again, all fans of Michigan based sports teams are like this, so I guess its to be expected.

it is a compliment they are rivals in basketball and football and in both sports were competing in the playoffs for basketball and for the playoffs for baseball.

In case you haven't noticed I saw Tigers fans with beat Cleveland shirts in Cleveland, I also saw some at the Tigers Indians game the day after they beat the Pistons in the last game of they Conference finals. I have a friend who wears his Tigers jersey and talks trash every time he goes with me so I stopped asking him. I hear Tigers fans talking trash in Cleveland and in Detroit so I think you might want to lose that my s#!t don't stink attitude. Tigers fans are usually poor sports in Detroit and then go into an away park and act that way isn't cool. I say they dish it out then they need to learn how to take it.

I'm hardly obsessed, but now that the Tigers & Indians series is over I'm rooting for the Tigers to go ahead of the Yankees sure it's slim but I hope it happens.

to the Yankee fan complaining above, I sent this in an e-mail to him as well but I think people should here this because he thinks Yankees fans are innocent.

I'm an Indians fan and one year when they were playing us they chanted 1948, which was the last time that the Tribe last won the world series.

I think it's a bit hypocritical to blame other fans when you're fans may be the most obnoxious and rude fans in all of baseball, maybe all of sports.

The same goes for Boston fans and NY. You hear Yankees Suck all the time in Boston, but never Let's go Red Sox. They are more obsessed with another team than their own. Another example, I went to see a Baltimore/Red Sox game in August of 2005 in Baltimore, and the stadium was 90% Sox fans. They started chanting Yankees Suck in Baltimore's stadium.

To the guy below me. Visit Yankee stadium in an Indians Jersey then visit Boston in an Indians Jersey. You will see a difference. For the most part 99% of the fans from every team are just fine, but there are always going to be some that get too carried away. Ignore them, that is the best thing to do. Heck, at Rangers games they used to chant 1940 all the time, even at home. Fans like to rub in other fans faces sometimes. The Yanks really can do that because no team has the pedigree that they do.

Don't assume all Cleveland fans do that. I do not care about teh Cavs so throw them out the window. Sure there are some fans who are idiots but that is true for all teams. I have watched some games where I have heard a few Tiger fans shout out and say Tribe sucks or hey Grady you suck. You seem to be very bitter if you ask me. You made it to the world series last year. Maybe this is our year. Who knows? If you are upset go talk it out with other Tiger fans and not shout your anger out on a bunch of people who have nothing to do what your talking about.

I think it comes from a certain number of people trying to create a false sense of rivalry, and it's certainly good for vendors selling the shirts/signs.

Like you said, there's also a compliment towards the teams from Motown. The Pistons have had a nice run of success, so beating them was a big step up for the Cavs. Same goes for the Indians, who have been chasing the Tigers for the past few seasons.

The Buckeyes call the miSHITgan wolves the team up north.
The Pistons battle with the Cavs the past few years.
The Tigers started last year to fight us.
The shirts rule.

Nuff said.

I think it's funny hearing the Indians fans answer this question by saying that they have more team pride. It's funny, I didn't notice ANY of that pride last year.

The irony in this situation is that a Tiger fan is asking this question. Doesn't make to much sense to me.
