As in how can a person know that everything they experience is not just a figment of thier imagination. The mind is a powerful thing and I don't have any doubt that it's possible that a person could fall into a sort of dream that they couldn't tell wasn't real. If they were in that dream for so long how would they even remember what the real world was like. It's sort of like asking how would a person in the matrix know they were in the matrix unless someone told them and took them out of it. But with psychosis it's just you, which would make it all the more sad.

Yes its sad when someone goes into a catatonic state. Yes its possible that the mind can take you totally out into itself. My son who is Autistic is part of that spectrum. The severe cases of Autism have the person getting lost within themselves...which is scary, that is why he was placed into intensive intervention to get him to see the relevance of contacting with others on a concious level...its intensive communication and language programs with rewards, almost like a constant classical conditioning experiment. He still goes into his Obsessions, like elevators, roller coasters, lining up matchbox cars, looking at all the pages of textbooks and maps. Schoolbusses. He is like OCD X 10. But the mind is so complex. It really can be as complex as the Matrix. Take Care.-Rachel.
