Pretty subjective really... the question is which is best for you and what you are going to use it for? You will get mac lovers flashing their ownership with pride (look at me I have a mac I am really hip I don't use MS ha ah) the thing is Apple Mac's are great in their way but which software is more in the office and home? Ordinary PC's which run MS/Linux etc are fairly versatile with games office products etc.

Microsoft and Apple inc are both great, Microsoft make the most popular OS in the world, and the main reason they have such a bad reputation is because the mainstream all use MS, so there are more people wanting to hack it. Apple make good solid products, but if it were as popular as Windows it would be the same level of insecurity.
So really Microsoft due to it's large large (most of computer users) is the best, but Apple Inc. make the best well designed products.

Microsoft is the more successful of the two. While Apple may have been ahead of Microsoft in the area of innovation, their business practices weren't as sound as those of Microsoft. Microsoft was better able to seize upon and exploit opportunities in the market where Apple was not.

in terms of technology then apple beats microsoft hands down. I have been a Microsoft user for a long time but was awe struck when I started using a Macbook. It is fast easy and great. The only problems I have are due to the Microsoft office software I have loaded.
In terms of stock then I would suggest Apple are the best. Microsoft have never paid a dividend. Their offerings are really bad compared to Apple. If you are going to invest in a company then you have to like the product or service it is offering.

To date, the stock for Microsoft has consistently outperformed Apple Inc. (I am assuming you are asking about the stock, as you ask about the companies, and not there computer - "which is better the PC or the MAC".
So go with the MS stock.
