It doesn't mean that you'll go into labor immediately, really. It just means that your body is starting to get ready for labor.

At 36 weeks it's not wise to go on a trip, especially if you're already 2 cm dialated.

Could you go into labor? Maybe.
Could you go about 4 weeks? Sure!

There's no answer here. Play it safe though. No trip is worth being left alone.

Its not a good idea for you to go incase you should go into labor. I was mostly effaced and 1 cm for a month, AND the first 37 hours of my 43 1/2 hour labor.

It could be an hour from now, or 6 weeks, and certainly some where in between. Theres no real way of knowing.

At 37 weeks I was 3 cm. and my husband and I worried about the same. As things worked out he didn't get to go because there weren't any available flights... but nothing happened anyway.

At 39 weeks I was 4 cm.

And here I am 3 days over due with another appointment tomorrow. It's very frustrating especially when everyone it telling you you won't make it to your due date. So I'm going to tell you that... dilation and effacement can tell you very little about when you will actually go into labor. Best of luck to you.

You are just going to have to play the waiting game. I was 1cm dilated from 36 weeks to 38 weeks and my water broke at 38 weeks and even though I was still only 1cm dilated I had to be admitted into the hospital, they induced my labor and I had my daughter that day. So you can literally go into labor at any time so I would advise your husband to stay just in case.

It could be today or it could be a month. I was dilated to 3 from 28 weeks til I was induced at 35 weeks. If this is your first, than you more than likely have about 2 more weeks before labor, but you never know!

Just because you are 2cm dilated doesn't mean you will necessarily go into labor anytime soon. I had started to dilate at 40 weeks but still needed to be induced at 42 weeks. However going away at such a late stage of your pregnancy isn't really advisable.

No it doesn't mean you'll go into labor early you can be dialated at two for awhile. The only reason why you shouldn't go on your trip is in case you do go into labor you'll be near your doctor.
