At present, same-sex marriages are recognized nationwide in the Netherlands, Belgium, Spain, Canada and South Africa, etc. What impact has this had on heterosexual marriage?

For example, the numbers show that heterosexual marriage looks pretty healthy in Scandinavia, where same-sex couples have had rights the longest.

just more proof that the whole "same sex marriage will ruin hetero marriage" scare mongering is just more propaganda aimed at keeping equal rights from everyone.

the fact is, it'll have/ has had no effect on heterosexual marriage.

in the UK, we've had civil partnerships for 2 years, and this year we've had the lowest divorce rate for 17-18 years.

Remember when the Universe imploded when Canada granted equal rights to its homosexual citizens and the whole world as we know it collapsed it to itself killing all forms of life? Oh wait, that never happened..... actually, when I think about it nothing did happen.... only that same-sex couples could marry and were no longer denied one of the most basic human rights.

Which ever morons claim that it will harm heterosexual marriage obviously haven't even bothered at looking how countries which have same-sex marriage have been affected. If they did, they'd see there's nothing to fear. In fact Massachusetts has one of the lowest divorce rates in the US by far. Yep, that's right, its actually improved and no balls of fire rained down destroying the entire state.
However, I doubt they will look at the statistics since people of low intelligence prefer to live a life of ignorance so that they can cope with the fustration of being so unbelievably stupid.

It's not, the only people who think it is are ridiculous.

No idea where it originated, but here is something sent me recently ... it made me laugh:

Read it carefully:

Twelve reasons why gay people should NOT be allowed to get married:

1. Homosexuality is not natural, much like eyeglasses, polyester, and birth control.

2. Heterosexual marriages are valid because they produce children. Infertile couples and old people can't legally get married because the world needs more children.

3. Obviously, gay parents will raise gay children, since straight parents only raise straight children.

4. Straight marriage will be less meaningful if Gay marriage is allowed, since Britney Spears' 55-hour just-for-fun marriage was meaningful.

5. Heterosexual marriage has been around a long time and hasn't changed at all; women are property, blacks can't marry whites, and divorce is illegal.

6. Gay marriage should be decided by people, not the courts, because the majority-elected legislatures, not courts, have historically protected the rights of the minorities.

7. Gay marriage is not supported by religion. In a theocracy like ours, the values of one religion are imposed on the entire country. That's why we have only one religion in America, and that’s why Atheists and Agnostics are not allowed to get married either.

8. Gay marriage will encourage people to be gay, in the same way that hanging around tall people will make you tall.

9. Legalizing gay marriage will open the door to all kinds of crazy behavior. People may even wish to marry their pets because a dog has legal standing and can sign a marriage contract.

10. Children can never succeed without a male and a female role model at home. That's why single parents are forbidden to raise children.

11. Gay marriage will change the foundation of society. Heterosexual marriage has been around for a long time, and we could never adapt to new social norms because we haven't adapted to things like cars or a longer lifespan.

12. Civil unions, providing most of the same benefits as marriage with a different name are better, because a "separate but equal" institution is always constitutional. Separate schools for African-Americans worked just as well as separate marriages for gays and lesbians will.

between the downsides to redefining marriage to comprise comparable-intercourse couples may well be the weakening of the meaning of marriage, which might reason greater divorces. Human nature being what it is, if the meaning of marriage is weakened, it will be psychologically much less stressful for much greater people to divorce. seem at what exceeded off while "no-fault" divorce replaced into legalized. The divorce fee skyrocketed. If the character of marriage is greater undermined interior the minds of couples then while issues get rocky, greater couples would be tempted to no longer paintings by way of their issues and get chuffed back yet quite to divorce and locate somebody else. it is a bad theory, because of the fact maximum marriage therapists agree that divorce many times "would not paintings." Divorce would not resolve the matters that brought about the 1st marriage to interrupt up. Divorced people carry the comparable issues to their new marriages that broke up their previous ones. this is why 2d and later marriages are statistically plenty plenty greater probably to end in divorce than first marriages are. additionally, a extensive majority of couples who evaluate divorce yet stay mutually describe themselves as "luckily married" 5 years later. So staying mutually "works" greater proper than divorce.

I've asked this question quite a few times in other forums and I've never gotten a straight answer (no pun intended, lol).

Why ? Because it DOESN'T harm heterosexual marriage. There is no good reason to ban gay marriage - it's just people trying to justify homophobia.

Religious people, for some reason, push their agenda on other people and want to be able to dictate how they live their lives (trying to ban gay marriage, being against abortion, against euthanasia, etc.. ) I say let people make their own choices!

Same-sex marriage is not a threat to opposite-sex marriage any more than opposite-sex marriage is a threat to same-sex marriage. It's the discriminatory laws that are a threat.
