Word-of-mouth can be your best friend or worst enemy. Always do a good job and treat your clients with honesty and respect and word-of-mouth will work for you. Do a bad job and don't show up when you are supposed to, good luck getting new customers.

It also helps to know the proper cultural practices ( how high to mow, weed I.D., when to aerate, to mulch or not, when and what to fertilize, etc.) Find out what turf types grow in your area and research those.

Get bonded and insured plus any applicable permits/licenses for your area. Learn how to bid the work and have contracts before doing any work.

Damaging trees and shrubs with a mower or string trimer will get you in trouble every time. RScott
