We have a couple of Empire chests, a melodeon with stool, a Governor Winthrop desk and a Joseph Eberman grandfather's clock. (Actually, we know the value of the clock, and we believe the only place we could get its full value is in Lancaster County, Pa.) We could also take my husband's grandfather's physician's desk, which still has a cubby that smells of iodine, and there are some glass-stoppered medicine bottles. There's also a working RCA floor-model radio.
That is, of course, if we had some method of transporting those things! The Empire chests alone are at least 100 lbs. each.

I get a kick out of this program...always such inflated values applied to things... try to get what they appraise something to be! The only thing I would consider is a Seth Thomas clock, 1886, bronze figurines (too fancy for my taste, but it works in the hall, keeps good time if I remember to wind the damned thing, and gongs on the hour (drives me nuts). On the other hand, I did my research into the clock, found where it was made, where what parts came from, and estimated value (again, try and get it..hmmmm ! ) Peace and love, Goldwing

Nope, My home and garage are filled with old things probably worth lots of money but I don't care what their monetary value is. I care about their value to me as nostalgia. Things from a by-gone time that to me was a much better time. Things by far, much older than I am. Do I live in the past? NO!, but I enjoy remembering and using things from the past. Things that hopefully, when I'm gone, will mean something to my children and their children as well. I pity those who put price tags on things.

I have a cool razor sharpener. It has a clamp that holds the razor and you turn this crank and the razor turns in a circle, at a slant, on flint or whatever it is that sharpens metal. Then you flip it over and sharpen the other side. There's an imprint on the bottom from 1889.
I also have a coke bottle with stars on it from 1926.

MYSELF! Just joking -
yeah, I have several items I'd wander through - mainly dragonware.
To Mama Pajama - what a sucky deal you got. You were describing that jewelry - those earrings - the knot ones - go back even further than then 1800s - that is a ancient design. Your earrings could have even been from further back - like the 1860s- with that screw back. Pitiful that some of us know more than so called "experts". ( I learned about that type of jewelry working at a museum , myself.)

I sure would. I have a really old dresser and an old entertainment center with the up and down dial on the radio that still works. I was watching that show the other day and would love for them to come here! Good question!

The oldest item I have is my grandmothers' hollow glass rolling pin she had from the 20's . Its open on one end and had a metal goodhousekeeping label printed on it . My husband thought he would "fix" it up and replaced the lid with a plastic one. If there was any value at all I think that would have dropped it to nothing.

Loved Blackmule's answer! Still laughing about it.
I have a very old, hand held, school bell, that belonged to my mom. Just to find out the value though.
As for other old items, I fill that nitch nicely on my own.
