The green dot is part of a new rule in effect for the 2007 NFL season. The green dot helmet indicates that the helmet is wired with a radio for calling in plays to the quarterback.
The green dot rule was instated because the league felt offensive teams had an unfair advantage on some plays because they could change it at the last minute.

The reason they have those marked is because certain QB's are holders on field goals. The holder can't have a radio helmet, so they have two separate helmets. One for being the QB, and one for being a holder. They say it isn't fair if they can radio into the holder for fake plays. So a green dot means that helmet is radio linked to the sidelines . (only one green dot per team on the fiels at a time)

Learn to use the search bar or you'll keep getting people telling you rediculous things like "it means there's a headset in the helmet"
These people are just upset with you for not noticing that there have been 900 people who've asked this exact question before you.
The green dot is actually the home of a magical fairy who comes out to lift the spirit of these QBs after each poorly thrown ball or dropped pass.

Its to signal who has a radio in their helmet. The NFL decided to crack down on it or something, so only one helmet with a radio can be on the field at the same time, so the green dot lets them know who has it.

I haven't heard about that. Maybe it's some kind of financial disclosure indicator. The more scratch ya make, the closer to green your dot and the more protection you get from referees. That sounds like something qb's would have.

Everyone knows the answer but Defensive players should get this same option.
The Offense already has so many advantages it's time that the defense gets on par with the offense.
Give the Defense a green dot!

the above answer is correct...i remember when vick and schaub were on the field at the same time and vick was a wr...thius gave him an unfair advantage because he could hear the plays being called in too...i dont think there should be any communication with the sidelines, how did they do things 60 years ago?
