I was evicted two years ago from an apt, and I was wondering if an apartment would find out if I didn't put that particular place on my rental application... is it even possible to get an apartment after you were evicted in the state of Oregon? Any info would help. Thanks!

The court proceeding and monetay judgment (if there was one) will appear on your credit file and also in court records (which are public).

As for if it will affect you getting a place, that all depends on the landlord. If the landlord doesn't bother to do any types of background or credit checks then they'll never know if you don't tell them. If you don't tell them and they find it I doubt they would rent to you. I just recently rejected a potential tenant because she had an eviction on her record from 5 years ago. I figure that if she did it once, she'll do it again.

Normally the judgments expire after 7 years, unless, the landlord files with court to keep it active. If he/she does that every 7 years it will never disappear from your report until it is satisfied.

Lastly, this will not only affect your ability to rent, but also to purchase a home. If you ever decide to buy a house the mortgage company is going to want proof that the judgment is satisfied (paid) before they will lend to you. The previous landlord would be able to file a lien on your property and no mortgage company is going to give a loan for a property that could get a lien attached to it.

I don't know much about Oregon...but in Texas, it can be very difficult to rent after an eviction. You may have to have a co-signer to get past it.

If the eviction was not reported on your credit history, It may not show up though. I would get a copy of my credit file and check it out. If it was reported, you can make them put a letter of explanation with it if there was good reason why you were evicted and that may sway future landlords in your favor.

Good Luck!

If they do a credit check it will almost certainly be there. An eviction is a matter of public record and those judgments usually show on your credit record.

When I was a landlord I would not rent to someone who had an eviction less than 2 years prior. If it was older that was OK unless they lied about it. If they lied about it they were toast.

It is probably on your credit report. You should get a copy of your credit report to make sure.

Your best bet is to apply for privately owned apartments and houses rather than apartment complexes run by property management. While private owners do often run credit checks, they may not if they are desperate to fill a place.

Sure do and a judgement may also show, because I bet you never payed what you owed.
