Here's a combination I really like:
You: Fallen Angel - blacked-out tooth, maybe a couple of bruises, crooked halo, tattered wings, etc.
Your Boyfriend: The Devil
It's a cool combination.
Plus, you could go further and have signs that say something like "We Want YOU!" or anything else that you can think of that would play this costume up well.
Or... you could go as Adam and Eve, but make it your own. Add your own particular style to it and play it up. He could be holding an apple, and you could have a large snake around your neck! I really like this one, and I think it could be fun.

how about agents Mulder and Sculley from X-Files? He walks around the party interviewing the monsters and aliens about government conspiracy, and you keep telling him "Mulder, that's Bob, he lives down the block" etc.
All you need are professional looking clothes and trench coats.
Or, get some cheap cameras at a pawn shop and go as paparazzi or Entertainment Tonight reporters. Spend the party annoying all the people dressed as celebrities.

My boyfriend and I are dressing up as Dog the Bounty Hunter and his wife, Beth. He's going to wear a long, blonde mullet wig with some braids in it, a black leather vest, sunglasses, jeans, and boots. I'm going to wear a jean skirt with fishnet stockings, a tank top, sunglasses, and a long, curly blonde wig. I'm also going to stuff my shirt so my chest looks HUGE like hers. We're both going to draw on tattoos and just have fun with it.
