are there any Black,Latino or Asian players considered "gamers" as well?

I don't want to turn this into a discussion about race, but I think it's a factor when people talk about "gamers" or use terms like gritty, hard-nosed, etc.

Last season, MLB and Holiday Inn held a vote for something called the "Look Again Player of the Year," which was supposed to recognize those who make sacrifices for their team, often in an unrecognized effort. Of the 30 players chosen (one from each team), only Andre Ethier and Jose Valentin were not white. Given the racial makeup of MLB, that's more than a little suspicious and pretty much confirms, at least to me, a little bit of unconscious racial bias.

There are plenty of black and Latino players who play the game as hard as anyone, but the media coverage will remain focused on guys like Eckstein and Erstad. Until that changes, then I don't see how anyone can think race isn't a factor in the discussion.

I don't think it's as much of a race issue as you seem to be making it. To humor you, Ricky Henderson, Roberto Clemente, Ichiro, Grady Anderson, Chone Figgins, Eric Byrnes, and Tony Pena are all gamers. Just to name a few.
