the answer is D.

1st subtract b from both sides
b+ax=12
-b........-b
2nd rewrite problem (b's cancel each other out)
ax=12-b
3rd divide a to each side
a/ax=12-b/a
4th rewrite problem for final answer(the a's that are on the same side cancel each other out)
x= (12-b)/a
GOOD LUCK

D.

if you isolate 'a' you first subtract b from 12, then you get 'ax=12-b'. When you just divide both sides by 'a' you get x=(12-b)/a
