They've filed a friend of the court brief with Minnesota urging them to allow Sen Larry Craig to withdraw his guilty plea - based on the contention that the sting was likely unconstitutional.

Should we rename them the American Conservative Liberties Union?

No, that would be Pat Robertson's ACLJ.

This just shows that the ACLU is not about Liberalism, but about the Bill of Rights. Of course, that is a Liberal document.

The ACLU might shelter devil if it delivered them interest and money. in spite of everything they help Fred Phelps and NAMBLA why no longer Craig too? I would desire to question in spite of if or no longer the ACLU may well be drawn to this subject if he had solicited a woman prostitute as an occasion. they have various agendas, considered one of that's to place conservatives in a damaging gentle, they're probably to concentration on the 'gay' difficulty asserting that being a conservative and gay makes him a hypocrite. they seem to look at something debatable and take in spite of area gets them the main interest.

The ACLU are ready to polish up their Conservative credentials. In a new twist to the Larry Craig story, that liberals are sure to eat up but swallow hard, the ACLU is coming to his rescue.

Of course, for the “non-partisan” organization, this is more about protecting perversion than politics or privacy. As much as the media will make a day out of a conservative getting support from the ACLU, its really the solicitation for sex that is being defended.

I think a more appropriate name would be the Anti-American Communist Liars Union.

The ACLU defends the Bill of Rights. They don't pick and choose their battles. I don't like it when they go to bat for the KKK, or the American Nazi party, but I recognize that in an America where are rights have been seriously eroded, *somebody* is taking action.

They'll lose, but I suspect they know that.

It will quickly be forgotten.
Just another case of confusing the principles behind the ACLU action with the personal attributes of the individual or group they act to defend.

In theory the Civil Liberties union should be non-poloitical. What a conservative gets defended and it offends you? Only one political viewpoint is worthy of being defended???

I am very proud to be a card-carrying member of the ACLU. I am glad to hear that they are defending the right of closeted homosexuals such as Republican Senator Larry Craig to find anonymous gay sexual partners in public restrooms.

No, this only proves that the ACLU will come to the aid of anyone that might be unfairly prosecuted. The right wing cries foul when the ACLU comes to the aid of liberals but is silent when they help one of their kind.

LMAO

I LOVE this story! I hope they win this case! ROTFLMAO!!

Here's my favorite quote from it:

"Senator Craig has not always been a great friend of civil liberties, but you shouldn’t have to endorse the civil liberties of others to keep your own,"

The ACLU doesn't defend liberals or conservatives, it defends the Bill of Rights.
