Well I always gain something positive from losing.
When I lose a love, I gain knowledge about what it love and what is not.
When I lose a thought, it is usually not that important. So I gain the knowledge that I will remember what is important.
When I lose a number, I gain the knowledge that they must have been drips to write it on such a small piece of paper.
When I lose a piece of my heart, I gain the strength to move forward.

im not really seeing anyone here with an answer to this question..? I think its asking what can you lose, and instantaneously have more of as a result of losing in the first place. Not lose one thing and gain another, were talking the same thing here correct? its a riddle, no? You could say that losing, is Losing in general. So by losing (sports or whatever), you gain experience. But thats probably not right.

hmm... how about layers of skin? lol. Im just takin blind swings here, but most animals, lose their skin in layers to make room for new healthier layers of skin to grow. Wow im bad at this.

I think when you lose at something whether it be a contest, competative relationship, a deceased loved one, etc. I believe that a part of your internal psyche both mentally and somewhat spiritually are forced to battle out both the qualities of Pride and Submission, Humility, and a trial of accepting that sometimes we cannot always have those things that make us either happy, content, proud, invincible, or that make us think we are immune to the slightest devastation. Usually, and almost always, people who expierence alot of tragedies and losses in their life learn patience and a good great deal of relating to others. Thus, these people tend to be the ones who are kind and when others that are struggling or in dire need, these people can remember when they went through these types of trials, how they felt, and how possibly no one was there for them; therefore, they tend to be the ones who help others and contribute largely to society and make differences in peoples lives.
I would say you GAIN respect when you LOSE, because when you learn through loss, you do change, almost always for the better, and people see that and respect you. Just don't try to lose that respect!
