I'm considering driving for a reputable Limo service in the LA area.

Not normally, unless you are the owner. My son drives one part-time. The heavy tippers are the young people.

Part time drivers probably won't make that much. LA have longer commute to airport and may make a little more, but night excursions and weekend parties are usually by the hour. You'll start in regular sedans and with one or two passengers, not the stretch jobs. And thus, not too much tip. Later when you get stretch jobs and more passengers, you may get more tip, and that'll be most of your income. But then you have to watch out for vandalism, cleaning your vehicle, and all that.

Owners will make more, but they'll have much heavier overhead, esp. if they hire an additional driver to use the vehicle when the owner's not driving. Insurance, car payments, maintainence, cleaning, and all that, you know. Plus regulatory paperwork, drug and alcohol testing, charter/PUC permits, airport permits, not to mention all the "pocket money" you need to keep friendly with all the hotel doormen.
