You can still have swelling even without toxemia. Almost every pregnant woman experiances this at sometime. It's because of two main reasons....one extra water...your body creates extra everything when your prego..including water weight! Second, because when you are pregnant your legs do not have the best cirrculation anymore. This is due to weight gain and sometimes the way the baby lays. A few things to help with it are sleep/lay on your left side. This helps put the baby in the correct possition for you and her/him to get better blood cirrculation. Another good tip is to lay down a few times a day if possible and keep your feet proped up. Make sure and watch your salt or sodium consumsion because this can cause water retention. Drink lots of water and it will help too. Hope I helped some!!

I had severe toxemia last time and am terrified this time. I'm only 17 weeks but I already get a huge indention in my leg if I rest it on something for 2 seconds. My doctor told me swelling is normal at any stage during pregnancy and not to worry. He didn't seem too concerned, or hid it well if he was.

just plain old swelling. The indentations are pretty gross though, they fill up slowly like memory foam! One other thing that can help are the compression hose they have for diabetics and surgery patients. They keep a steady gentle pressure on the lower leg to help the fluids circulate up again, raising her feet whenever possible may help too.

every woman reacts differently to pregnancy. the blood volume greatly increases when a woman is pregnant, also sometimes they just retain more water. if the doctors aren't worried then she shouldn't be either. i had a friend who didn't show at all until she was 7 months pregnant and then she just blew up and swole all over. she coulnd't even wear shoes (house slippers only) for the last two months because she was so swolen. when she delivered the water weight was gone by the time she was discharged from the hospital.

Water retention - from having too much sodium/salt being upright for too long during the day or pre-eclampsia although they would have tested for that when they tested for toxemia.
If she spends more time with her feet up and cuts the salt/sodium in her diet it should lessen.
Depending how far along she is exactly (38 -39 weeks) she could ask to be induced or they may suggest it at her next appointment.

When this happened to me the doctor told me that since our blood increases and the weight pushes down on your legs then it causes to sweel, especially if you are sitting down for a long period of time, so what i use to do is raise my legs on alot of pillows, or on top of the wall and massage them, it really worked.

My sister had gestational hypertension and it caused her legs to swell a lot. Maybe she should ask her doctor to check her blood pressure more often.
