I am going to burn wood this year, and I am looking for a free standing wood stove than can heat up to and beyond 3000 sqft! I know they have them, and have looked at a few, but does anybody currently have one, and what is the brand and name, and how does it work?

thanks!

Up at the Ranch, we have a Fisher "Papa Bear" Stove (all cast-iron) that heats the main house of 2800 sq ft. Ceiling fans in the living room and each bedroom keeps the warmed air circulating.

A "Baby Bear" stove heats the shop/office of 400 sq ft.

The Ranch is located in the Sierra Nevada foothills, and our night time temps are below freezing almost all winter long. 3 logs in the Papa Bear warms the house to the point where we wear shorts and t-shirts. We tend to go through just over a cord of wood each winter.

Fisher went out of business I think... but Northweststoves sells very similar products ( http://www.northweststoves.ca/wood-stoves-gas-fireplaces/mansfield.html )

Good Luck.

it won't have to be very big, they put out tremendous heat...you may be used to a fire place that is putting out radiant heat & sucking all the air out of the house( burning lots of wood no resulting heat ). I'd go smaller than larger. you can get them at tractor supply for $ 125.00 the kind like you see on the rifleman tv show. remember to run your a/c fan to circulate heat. you may want to add a return air near this unit for better performance.
