Im getting a custom built computer today that doesnt come with a hard drive. I have a hard drive in my existing computer that I am going to use. I have never installed windows on any computer and I need to know the basic steps to do this. Any help is appreciated. Thanks

Frist, if the harddrive you are wanting to use already has information on it you will need to make sure you delete the existing Windows install and install a fresh install of Windows XP. Once the drive is installed and you can boot off of the Wndows XP CD and follow the steps. You will be asked what directory to install the Windows XP on. They system may find the current install on the drive. You sill want to delete the install and install a fresh copy...

Insert the xp disk, boot from cd (should give you a prompt) follow prompts, once install is complete, install any drivers from the Motherboard cd and any third party hardware you need. I personally would go the video card Manufaturer's website and DL the newest, and sound if you have a seperate card.

After you have the hard drive installed, put the XP CD in the CD drive and reboot. It will drag you through the installation.

first you should see whether you are having a genuine computer ie you should see whether yours is original or not. make it genuine and then insert cd and reboot and installation will be easy

Follow the directions and read them thoroughly. They will guide you through everything you would want to do.
