Why does moving your hands in front of the TV or radio antenna influence the reception?

To understand this phenomena you have to understand that human bodies are made up of about 50% water.(by mass)

Water as I am sure you know conducts electricity.--it is a conductor.

We will now view your body as a conductor.

When you place a conductor near a radio or tv antenna a number of things happen.
But the main thing that affects reception is a thing called multi-path reception.

Multi-path reception is when the transmitted signal arrives at the receiving antenna by two separate routes.
When these two signal arrive at the antenna at different times this cause a distortion , in radio it may present as fuzz sound , on tv it is often seen as a ghost image on the screen or a waving picture.

So when you stand in front of an antenna the signal will go to the receiving device (tv or radio) and also bounce off you and arrive at the device later.

This causes multi-path reception and a effect can be notice on the receiver.
