Do you remember the Tiananmen Square Massacre. They didn't exactly use tasers then.

Remember that police use of tasers is a fairly new standard in the US. Also the taser is used the majority of the time with no media report being done. You are upset over 2 taser incidents which happened to be caught on film. I have watched numerous versions of both incidents, and I fully support the officers utilizing the tasers to gain control of each incident. How many times has a taser been used to subdue a suspect?

I'm from Canada and if the library gets that out of hand I suspect SWAT would be called. We did have cops called to a local soccer game, they did threaten to use pepper spray. I don't know that pepper spray is a better alternative, tasers hurt then it goes away, pepper spray seems to last longer. Having said all that, I imagine you're talking about a certain event? Tasers do give police an effective way to neutralize a person with minimal damage to either of them. It likely feels nasty but it is a relatively safe way to get people under control. They used to use billy clubs, a busted head lasts a life time.

The simple answer is this...The protester turned the page from protesting to becoming combative and unruly and had Meany chances to leave before being tased. I'm one of the first to point out abuse, especially by law enforcement but cops were getting hurt before the taser came out. Other countries have been known to do much worse with less effort and half the time these cops spent trying to gain control of the situation.

I am positive there are many other countries that do worse, althouth I cannot think of anything off hand.

A student in Canada was arrested, rather forceably, although not tasered, for throwing cream pies at politicians.

Yes, and foreign countries also use deadly force as well on peaceful students. Remember Tienamen Square?

Taser International has been criticized for selling Tasers to foreign countries who use them as torture devices.

You can find examples by typing taser in foreign countries in your search engine. I got too many examples to cite in here.

Probably not and I agree it was a complete over-reaction; especially when there were 4 or 5 cops already appearing to take this guy away. On the other hand, other countries crush student "liberties" and disobedience by jailing them without charges for indefinite lengths of time without hearings. Other countries have gone as far as to simply eliminate some students for teaching/debating/discussing "dangerous" philosophies or tenets. Just wondering if you remember the Tiannamen Square uprising in China or countless other similiar events where students have tried to encourage democratic reforms in various third world countries and/or former USSR and its' republics?

I'm not sure, but if a person is being unruly and resisting arrest HERE, I think officers have all the right to taser them into submission.

Many other countries run them over with tanks shoot them with rubber bullets, Beat them with battons, mace them, or just plain shoot them.

By the way he wasnt tasered for being at the library or debate he was tasered for resisting arrest.

You are the troll on this question nice that you ask a question then threaten anyone who disagrees with your loaded question.

Resisting arrest is a good reason to get tasered. I have no sympathy for the clown.
