They might think they are innocent, but who knows? The fact that they have been put in prison in the first place usually indicates that they are guilty. I'm sure some do get in that shouldn't, but I'd say mostly not.

Same with (Mr. Ken)
If you are talking about county jail, that could be true. Many people in county jail are awaiting trial. Since the prosecution conviction rate is generally about 90%, that 10% number may be accurate. In prison, I would think it would be much less. There are innocence projects etc. to work with prisoners who believe they have been wrongly convicted.

That is very much possible.

So what is the solution should we let all of them out?

On the other hand there are people on trial who are in jail but they are innocent, but they have to stay in jail till the case reaches its conclusion.

That is just how the system works. Have not there been time when your brother spilled the milk and your mother made you clean it up and stand in a corner for 30mins ?

Yes in most cases. They don't have the money to fight the court and or get a good lawer. So they have to do time and the jail makes good money to have them in there. Plus the jail spend less money on them because they are innocent just poor. I know been there.

i hope the percentage isn't that high, but there are some. if you take a poll of people in jail, though, probably at least 80% of them will say that they are innocent. / btw, Giggle Bear, a lot of innocent people also get sent to mental hospitals for the criminally insane. i met a guy who had stabbed his wife with a sword. he told me he'd done nothing wrong..............she had deserved it. scary, yeh?

I don't know what the percentage is but there are certainly innocent people in prison. There is proof of that. People are released all the time because new evidence, often DNA, is found that exonerates them.

If you ask those in prison, they are all innocent. I think 10% is too high. There might be 0.5-1% but that is still a reach.

I bet if you asked the people in jail about 95% of them would say they are innocent.

If you were to take a poll of all offenders in prisons you would find the percentage to be nearer 100. On the other hand if you were to poll police officers you would find the percentage also to be 100 but this time on the guilty side.
