I do not spend any money from my pocket for class room teaching, since I teach in a University. But I do spend a lot on my Research students, making phone calls for contacting some resource persons for them, most of them far flung, and spending on Inter Net, taking them to places, etc. But I do not keep an account, so I really do not know how much I spend, on my students.

My first year teaching, I spent close to $1,000 on materials. I bought supplies for my desk such as a stapler, staples, pens, pencils, post-it notes, etc. I also spent a lot on materials for my classroom and students such as posters, backing paper, border, extra pencils, erasers, a pencil sharpener, motivational stickers, certificates of achievement, and rewards, etc. Years after my first, I spent a lot less, because I knew what was provided for me, and I had a lot of leftover supplies from previous years. I'd say a good average per year is about $500, give or take a hundred or so.

Since it was my first year, I bought more than I needed to make sure that I had everything. What you buy will depend on your situation. Some schools will provide you with many materials. Some won't. You have to go by what you are provided with, and what your students may need, especially if you teach in an area where the kids are very poor and can't supply the basics for themselves. (Always have extra pencils, crayons, scissors, glue, noteboks, etc. on hand.)

My first year I spent around $3,000. I have four preps, and at the time, with hardly no usable materials - for students or instruction. I even had to buy my own chalk, paper, etc.
Now I spend about $200 at the start of the year, and maybe around $40 per month, or so. A lot of it is on materials, again, stuff for the class. Monthly $20 subscription to online German tv service, blank CDs, printer ink, goodies for the kids, misc stuff I need to do my job effectively. Here's a good example, I needed to run out and buy a few pkgs of dixie cups today, so we can practice the guttural-r sound with gargling tomorrow.

I am a 16 year teacher, math and science, spend on average 100 bucks per month.

science has many consumables. I get 300 from my school at the start of the year, not nearly enough. The department certainly wont supply what I consider basics. for example: I plan to dissect earthworms and grasshoppers this year. I will be buying those this next week. Printer ink is notorious, I cant get enough. xerox paper, the list is extensive.

I used to spend a lot of money on supplies and rewards for students in my class. But I have learned how to ask parents to supply things for class treats and projects. Sometimes I get a good response other times I get no response. But I spend very little of my own money now. I've been teaching 11 years

This is my first year teaching. At the start of the year I started buying stuff. I have a budget of $50 a month. When I was buying books, I spent around $300. Other stuff like organizers, school supplies, charts, posters, etc about $350. That's still buying misc. stuff at $50 a month. Teaching is expensive.

my mom is a teacher and she buys art suppies for her room, and posters of the water cycle animals and so on (she teaches montessori). If her kids are doing a project, she will buy those. Example, Kids were making sea shell project, Mom bought them each 4-5 sea shells. Of course, you can ask parents to donate money and rewards. Good luck
