I agree with e fn w.
It's really tough to compare them. They were both evil in their own ways. Obviously Hitler sticks out in most peoples minds as "the worst" for obvious reasons. People don't know about Stalin as much. Hitler was sick and twisted..it was certain he had mental problems. Stalin was paranoid and hateful.
I really can't say one is more evil than the next. I'm half eastern european decent, so my descendents on one side got killed by both Hitler and Stalin (eastern european jews). so i say they are equal evilness.

I consider them both pretty evil. Consider this, Stalin's mass killings were mostly before WW II (100,000 a year), and mostly from his purges and 'collectivization in early 30's with the latest estimate of around 20-30 million dead. His genocide wasn't a full time occupation to his death, unlike Hitler, but that's where the comparison stops. When comparing the two, both were evil, both put people in concentration camps, both committed genocide, both were dictators, both...well you get the picture. The one factor Hitler had over Stalin tho, Hitler was insane. Stalin was just angry and distrustful.
Other things to consider,Stalin killed more people, Hitler started WW II, Hitler killed the Jews and some people in his nation, but he started the war that resulted in many troops dying on both sides. Hitler may be considered the greater of both evils; tho Stalin killed more people it is said, Hitler's action ensured that those loses were as high as possible.
It is my conclusion that Hitler may be the 'evil-er" of them all, but comparing the them is ludicrous, now that i think about it, so just forget about it!

Stalin, Hitler and Stalin both practiced ethnic cleansing but Stalin murdered many more of his own people than Hitler.
Stalin was responsible for many more deaths than Hitler and if Hitler hadn't started WW2 Stalin would of by attacking the Scandinavian countries and/or Poland.

I would have to say Stalin.
In his own twisted way, Hitler was sincerely interested in making a better Germany.
I don't think Stalin had any thought but keeping himself in power.
It is a difficult comparison because Stalin was in power for much longer, and what Hitler would have become had he succeeded in WWII it's hard to say. It's almost like saying which is colder -100° or -200°. Both are damn cold.
Stlain and Hitler were both evil.

I would have to go with Hitler on this one. Now I know that this may upset Smoltziem, who has already noted that anyone of this opinion "doesn't know what they're talking about" but I can't just assume that because Stalin killed more people, that that automatically makes him the most evil out of the two. Granted, killing upwards of 30 million people is about as evil as any human being can get, but don't you think it's a little pointless to compare only by numbers when the word "million" enters the equation?
If we want to compare the two most evil men of power in our time, side by side, we must first define "evil". To me, an "evil" person is someone who has willingly turned themselves over to Lucifer, and is committing acts in the Devil's best interest, more so than his own. What's more, a truly evil person is surrounded by people you can bet are even MORE evil, because it will be THEM that are willing to execute the orders they are given. Think about that for a second, Stalin may be credited for having killed 30 million, but did he do it himself? Same goes for Hitler, if he killed 6 million Jews, did he do that himself?
Who these men have surrounded themselves with count for something. I believe Hitler was the more calculating of the two, and he was surrounded by men far more calculating than he. Let's not forget that Stalin slayed millions out of his own paranoia. Hitler I believe slayed millions purely in the interest of Satan himself.
In the end, it really can't be said who is more evil than the other, but if I had to choose, like I said, it would have to be Hitler.

Personally, I would say that they were at the same level. Stalin was a little more astute, which made it more dangerous. It survived the war and died of disease, not defeated like hitler.
Besides, many of its evil things it did quietly

Not too sure that it's necessarily a good comparison...Stalin had control longer than Hitler, and wasn't trying to rebuild under the gaze of the world. One can only be thankful they're both gone.

Anyone who thinks Hitler was as evil as Stalin has never studied Russian History. Stalin starved his own people who were growing food for his country so he could export it on the world market. Stalin killed without remorse just to consolidate his own lust for power.
While Hitler killed the Jews without remorse, Stalin killed every Russian without prejudice. He even imprisoned returning Russian WWII vets in pow camps for fear that their exposure to other cultures would make them see the deficiencies of Communism. Hitler was bad, but Stalin was evil.

Probably Stalin if for no other reason he had a much longer time to kill folks. But Hitler made up for a meager 12 years (compared to Stalin's 20 or so) with zeal and drive.
And let's not forget Mao...
