we stole the island from Argentina. the Malvina's are rightfully theirs. i for one would not want to see a fight over that worthless piece of rock again. even if a bunch of British colonials live there or not.
We were so angry over the sinking of our ships in fair and proper combat. that we sectioned the sinking of the Belgrano after it LEFT the combat zone.
it was a revenge killing. i salute all the men that faught that small war on both sides. to be honest they all died for nothing. argentina could not have affected any of our oil or mineral interests there anyway.
most of you makeing comments to this question have never seen combat or severd in the armed forces or you would not make light of so many men who died for that useless rock.
combat is dirty mean and nasty, there is little or no honour in it. you follow orders of old people who have politics in mind and they never get thier hands bloody. they dont care if you die just so long as you keep them in power.
that is what war is!!!!!!!!!

As I recall, an international court sided with the UK about the ownership of the Falkland Islands where British subjects have been raising sheep for many years.
country bumpkin: The Argentine name for the islands is Islas Malvinas. The Maldive Islands are a former British protectorate in the Indian Ocean. It is a group of tiny islands where Muslim fishermen live.

I was about 11 when the war occurred. I used to stay at my grandmother's place in New Jersey and she would listen to the news on the radio like she did in World War II. I remember she and her sister my Aunt Billie talking about the battle between the British Navy and the Graf Spee back in 1939. Apparently it had been broadcast nearly live on the radio back then. It was quite a history lesson!! Their father was British and had served in the British Army as a sergeant somewhere in the late 1800's or early 1900's so there was no doubt whom we were supporting!!:)
I frankly was glad to see the British kick the Argentines a**es. Even if you allow that Argentina may have some truth to their claims, going in with your military and smacking people around pretty much takes all the moral starch out of your collar, don't you agree? Before I would have been sympathetic, whereas now I would say to Argentina, "Take your claim and sit on an upside down diner stool!!"
Succinct enough for you?

The Islanders want to be British. As result they are part of Britain.
When a war is fought over a piece of land and one side wins what are they supposed to do - say "bad luck old chap, sorry for beating you" and hand it back to the losers? Hello, Argentina tried to invade and FAILED. Thats why the Falklands are still under UK rule! If the citizens of the Falklands decide they want to be under Argentinian rule then so be it. But when a conflict is decided militarily then the spoils go to the victor. Loser gets nothing. So what claim do Argentina have over the Falklands other than they are closer to then than the UK?
It has nothing to do with an "Empire". Noone in Britain thinks we have an "Empire" anymore or cares about it.

you know what is strange of the whole Falklands thing, if it was not a military dictator in the Falklands would British opinion have been different. seems that a lot of British just see it as a democracy kicking a despot. sorry lads but it was not a despot on the general belgrano it was thousands of men with sisters and mothers. for that alone and to pay respect to the thousands of innocent men who died the Maldives should belong to Argentina. i wonder is the reason that there is more talk of the seas around it because the price of oil is making it look so much more important with the North sea supply running out.

You can't change history.
By the way, I hear that there has been a big demonstration in BA about people disappearing again.
Once Argentina is worth joining, I'm sure the Falkland Islanders will join. BUT it is not worth joining yet. Argentinos must get their country into the 20th century politically and economically.

not a lot right now, matters like this are always out of the hands of the common folk, it is down to our government and argentina's, thankfully the dispute is resolved at the moment, long may it continue to be so.
as for the war in 1982, tragic that so many lost their lives, but it is a fact that governments can't always find a compromise without resulting in conflict. bless them all who fought.

I am pretty sure that the islands belong to the UK, as they have for some time. Argentina tried to claim the islands in 1982, but lost a war to the UK over it.

The Falcklands belongs to Argentina. It is part of Argentine territory when it was invaded by the British that expelled the local Argentine population. Falckland islanders are settlers and their opinions shouldn't be taken in consideration. It's like asking Israeli settlers in Palestine if their settlements should remain Israeli.

No worries.
Argentina does not belong to Argentina either. A good portion of its land belongs to the Crown. Not to the Netherland's crown by the way. The other big slice belongs to figureheads hired by the Vatican represented by the Opus Dei.
