The current Readers Digest had a good article on the power of being thankful for what we have in our lives, and how despite the difficulties of any particular day, month, year, if we concentrate on the beauty and goodness around us, and actively be grateful for what we have, we make a major impact not only on ourselves but others around us. The studies pointed out some very good points. A link to the article follows. So, when life really sucks for you, do you dwell in it or do you purposely look for the things in you life for which you're thankful?

LadyG,

This article was awesome. I am a lady in my late 30s and when I was a teen I became very ill and as a result was hospitalized and that was 22 years ago. I had to earn a lot of my privlidges and before I got married to the most wonderful godliest man on earth I was put in a holding pattern of a 2 1/2 year courtship we were asked to wait until we could support ourselves.

I am a christian because of all that have happened to me and God has blessed me so much not because so much of what I received but what I LEARNED through the hard times. I have a gratitude journal, a journal to take church notes in additon I have a journal to document all the miracles God has blessed me with.

In addition I thank God all day long and yes being thankful is deliberate and purposeful. Even through my trials God grace holds me up when I fall down. I was talking to my beloved Steadfast my husband and asked him how many people stop and say thank you to God for thier needs being met? Or do most people focus on the negative. My beloved says all the time be thankful for what you do have dont focus on what you dont have we are married almost 14 years and many of our peers have materially prospered long before we ever did, but we are joyful and happy and content and if your relationship is focused on truth goodness and God you can withstand anything thank you for a WONDERFUL question May you be blessed E4G

When a bad thing happens to me and I feel low.... I reflect to myself and ask myself, are there others out there that suffers the same as me? NO. Some even face difficulties that are even harder and more problematic.

For that reason I am thankful that even if I have difficulties I am still very lucky and always think of others.

I think complaining that your life sucks and stuff and ignoring what others are actually facing life threatening difficulties is common and I think its called Affluenza. Common in teenagers like myself I admit.

Somewhere in the middle...I cannot say I do not let things get to me, but after some thought (even I can actually think occasionally), I am back to where I started...we dig out one shovel-full at a time. My late business partner was a 12 stepper, taught me some very sound things in life. "change what you can, accept what you cannot change." IT has made my life so much easier. Peace and love, Goldwing

Every night, I thank God for preserving me,my children, all that I have. so many times, I have been in life threatening situations. But I see my answer about how someone warned us about people coming to the door was deleted. I think Yahoo thinks I make these things up.

When we constantly talk about the bad things we sort of bring them on. Will look at the article. Thanks ladyG

i try really hard to, but sometimes it is just too overwhelming.

since the first of this year, i have lost 2 aunts, my mother-in-law, an ex mother-in-law (who i was still very close to), a dear friend who was a mother figure to me, and 2 of my beloved cats. i have also had another heart attack (at my mother-in-laws funeral),had angioplasty and stent, myriad of other health problems, and lost my job because of all of it. i went into a major depression because of all of it and had to be hospitalized because of that too.

it is VERY hard, but i just keep going. some days i can't even get dressed - but the wonderful, caring people i have found here truly do help. i try not to dwell on it, but i rarely ever sleep and sometimes during the night when i am sitting here with only my computer to keep me company, it's hard not to

LadyG, You can best believe I do just that.
Sure, life can get a person down for a bit, but take a deep breath & look around & it gets better real fast.
"Desiderata" (poem) are words I live by, along with "Footprints in the sand."
Have a great day

I look around me and realize how truly blessed I am. When things are not going so well, I remember it is only a temporary situation and thngs will improve. It saves my sanity and keeps my blood pressure down.
