I check room rates on these two sites
http://www.travelworm.com
http://www.hotels.com

To compare to the rates from the hotel/casino web site
http://www.lasvegasadvisor.com/referenceguide-hotels.cfm

"Add details" to your Q, such as, what nights you want? The 28th until the 1st are the most popular(4 nights)

Do you want to stay on the strip, downtown, or an off strip hotel?

>If you're talking about spending $2,000 for a room only for 4 nights, even 5 star hotels are within your price range.

Room rates 12/28 - 1/1 > Total cost for 4 nights - all rates are from the hotels own web site.

5 Star
Venetian - $1596
Caesars Palace - $1940

4 Star
LV Hilton - $894
Flamingo - $945/$1145/$1225
Bally's - $1016/$1096
Harrah's - $1045/$1125
Luxor - $1170/$1250
Monte Carlo - $1180
Rio - $1310/$1430
Paris - $1326/$1486
NY NY - $1380
Treasure Island - $1396/$1436
Mirage - $1556
Mandalay Bay - $1580/$1880
MGM - $1640/$1720

1,000 a person?!? you can stay pretty much at any standard room in any casino on the strip for that price..assuming u got 2 ppl in a room..no standard room costs more than maybe $800 a night...and that's probably the wynn..booking last minute..okay maybe on new years i could see it being up to $1,200 for the night..but thats booked last minute..so u should be fine anywhere.

Anyway here's a trick to save some money. BOok directly through the hotel, find out if they have a "Best rate guarantee" and what the time limits are (you may have to cancel if there is no fee, and re book to get ur best rate sometimes). This is what i did for my flamingo reservation...it was originally $590 for the weekend for one GO Room. I booked it, I found a rate of $540 the next morning on orbitz, but it was past their 4 hour window. I cancelled my reservation, rebooked it was $610 for the weekend..sent in my Best Rate Guarantee form...and they not only match the rate..but drop it 25%...my rate for the room is now like $390 for the weekend. saved $200 just like that.

For the 2005/2006 new years eve i found that bally's was the least expensive hotel at $200/night. its not as high class as the bellagio or the venetian, but its in the middle of the strip and it saves a lot of money. definitely shop around on the internet for different rates. even costco offers trips to vegas that you can book online. i found that booking the hotel on the hotel's own website saved money when it came to fees and such.

For new years it should be way off the strip for that kind of money. Try the hotels in Henderson and North Las Vegas.
