I was led to a site on childhood beliefs. Example: I used to believe that "help wanted" signs meant that someone had robbed the store very recently and needed help trying to catch the thief.

So I wonder, what things did you believe as a child?

Here is the site if you want to see more: http://www.iusedtobelieve.com/animals/

As a child, I thought Rarebit soup was made with real rabbits. I was about 32 when I learned the difference.
Once I learned to drive (had a small truck at the time), I thought I had to pull into the weigh station for truckers on the hwy. Never forget the comments I got that day, from the troopers!
Used to believe I had the greatest mom in the world, but now I know she was the greatest in the whole universe.
Lastly, (that I can remember): That God never heard me. Not true, He always does & still kicks my butt now & then to prove it.

I had a mean older brother who never let me believe in anything.

It didn't bother me about Santa Claus or the Easter Bunny or the Tooth Fairy, but he just about destroyed me when he told me there was no such thing as MAGIC!

I wanted sooooo much to believe that magic was real and not just tricks.

I STILL want to.

I had a copy of "Little Women" by Louisa Alcott. I was devestated when Beth passed away. I checked out the same book from the library because I believed that she wouldn't die in that one. My parents had a good laugh over this when they saw the library copy. I had a few laughs too over the years, especially when watching any of the movies filmed from the book.
(I still wish she hadn't died.)

I used to believe that my forehead turned green when I lied because my mother could always tell when I was lying and that's who she said she knew. I grew up to be a very honest person because of that, I'm just not a good liar. I also believed that the pictures of her when she was a little girl where pictures of me, because she told me they were. It would really upset me because I couldn't remember the events. I also believed that she could make me invisible. When I got older and asked her why she did all these things to me, she said that being a housewife was boring and that's how she amused herself.

I used to believe that MOST people would choose to do good, if it came to a choice between good and evil. Guess what? They do!

I used to believe that when my Mother told me she wouldn't see me until next year, on December 31st, that it would be 365 days until I saw her again. (I finally figured it out the year I was seven, and I gave her holy hell for putting me through that mental anguish for years!)

I thought my favourite Uncle could REALLY pass that pencil in one ear and out the other when I was really little. I had that one figured out by the time I reached six years of age though.

I was a real tomboy as a kid and thought boys were cool, until I turned 12 and my hormones gave me a figure that made me a natural target of their "baser instincts". It took me another seven years to resign myself to the fact that the differences in shape are there for a very good reason (and to enjoy those differences).

When we moved to Ontario, Canada, I saw earthworms for the first time. They come out of the ground after a rain. I was disgusted by the long slimy stinky creature and ask my Dad what they were and where they came from. He told me they were earthworms and that they came down from the sky in the rain because earth was their natural habitat. Guess how often I went out in the rain ????

I believed in a safe secure world and that people only had sex to have babies.

I am older now and my safety and security is in God and too many people use sex as a toy or a drug and sex is a privlidge not a right.

Things are much different from when I was little.
