thats a huge debate. to some people its a baby, to some people it isnt. even if its inside of me, its my baby. "fetus" is very scientific... whereas i think of it as my baby, i have to get the right nutrition and be healthy for my baby. my baby depends on me.

Hot topic.

It is a BABY to a woman who very much wants to deliver a healthy, lovable, cuddly baby at the end of 9 months.

It is a fetus if it is dead, aborted, unwanted, or a medical care personnel is talking about it before it is born.

To most people in general it is a BABY. I have never heard anyone ask how the fetus is growing or doing. Or have a fetus shower. I do not think I have ever heard the term fetus unless abortion was the topic of discussion.

I had an abortion early on during my marriage. I had a baby 10 years later and I started feel really bad about the abortion. I have now forgiven myself for that but I do not recommend abortion to anyone. I have not told my son that I aborted his older sister.

However, I feel a woman should have the right to abort if she so chooses. Abortion is her decision and her choice, not anyone elses. The world is bad enough, overcrowded enough = we don't need unwanted children. And adoption is not the best alternative at times because it can be emotionally devastating to the mother at some point in her life or for the rest of her life.

It is your baby from when first conceived and yes the medical term is foetus but it is still your baby, it is still something living with a heartbeat from 12 weeks on that I believe has a soul so I class mine as babies from start to finish, wouldn't dream of calling foetus still hurts when you if you lose it and you see it, when fully formed, has 10 fingers, 10 toes and you would call foetus well could luck to you! You want an abortion at 36 weeks that is sick ever heard of the pill or condoms not that child's fault it ended up with someone like you, you make me sick. Just give the child up for adoption and try taking pre-cautions next time instead of putting a baby what you are putting a baby through!

Most women as soon as they know they are pregnant will refer to the pregnancy as a baby even if it happens to be an embryo or foetus.
And I disagree....my own opinion is that as soon as it has a heart beat then it's a baby and has a right to life.
I am not going to abuse you on here like others but i do think late term abortions are murder.
There are many operations available today for cleft lip so to abort your baby for that reason I think was barbaric and unjustified. I would have understood it more if the baby had serious brain damage or was a threat to your life.
I actually think you must ask these questions to provoke a reaction from people especially when most on here know of the abortion thingy with you.

And to abort a baby that late on simply because you don't want it beggers belief! You could of had it adopted!
There are so many childless couples out there that would have loved your baby!
My sister had cancer and may not have kids! and she is so upset that she may never be a Mum!
So sorry if i have little sympathy for you!

You can call it a foetus if you want But by six months your "foetus" has arms and legs and a brain.
And why does being born make it a baby?
What do you think it looks like two days before it is born?

fetus is a fetus; baby is a baby, an actual human being. i don know... this is a hard question. no one can define life, what's life? some people think fetus is a life, but some don't. Only God has the answer.
If you have an abortion, and u don't feel sad about it; then that fetus is not a life to you. If you feel remorse for the abortion, then that fetus might worth as valuable as a life. like Fred says, it is true when u believe is true, it is not true when you do not believe is true. please take care of your self, because you are a person, a living being, not a fetus.

I am not even going to bother giving you a proper answer since it will not register with you. It's not a baby until its born??????? My god, im guessing u have never actually seen a scan of a baby before its born and that is probably because you are too busy aborting them. Arent you the one with 7 abortions? it seems ironic to me that you keep posting in the pregnancy section when all you do is end them. Buy yourself some condoms for crying out loud!

It is a baby, and I know no-one, not midwives, doctors, etc that refer it the baby as a foetus! Apart from text books that refer to the baby as a foetus in the beginning weeks of conception!!
This is insane.

It really has a lot to do with a persons respect for life and their own desire to have a baby! I have NEVER heard someone refer to their pregnant tummy as "the fetus" but if i had I would assume that not only does the woman not want the real person growing inside her.. but that she resents it and hopes that it will never come to term.

If someone is in a really bad situation it is much easier to detach yourself from the pregnancy by forgetting that there is an actual human being growing inside you! Nonetheless.. there is.

So to answer your question: Women refer to them as Babies because to them they are just that! Living growing little people who are going to change their worlds! And these women truly believe that life is beautiful!

If you want an abortion after about 21 weeks, they first have to cut the umbilical cord in-utero to kill the child; because if it's born alive it has all the human rights everyone else has. I think this is why they use foetus (an unborn or unhatched offspring of a mammal more than 8 weeks after conception) because it helps dehumanise it for those who have to perform such brutal acts.
