I have a log which i want to turn on to a ball on a lathe but log was to big so had to chisel it down to a max of 12" diameter, but needed circumference to measure it in the middle, if you catch me drift.

The circumference of a circle is given by the formula:

C = 2 x pi x r

Where:

C is the circumference
r is the radius
pi is a constant ~ 3.142

Of course since the diameter (d) is twice the radius the formula is also:

C = pi x d

So you have:

C = pi x 12

C = 37.6991 (using a calculator)

Answer: Circumference of a circle whose diameter is 12 inches = 37.7 inches (to 3 significant figures). PS Don't forget to give the units in this sort of question.

Circumference = pi multiplied by diameter

so 12 * pi (approx 3.142)

So the circumference is 37.7 inches.

37.68 inches Diameter
diameter X Pi= Circumference
= 12 x 3.14 = Diameter
12 X 3.14 = 37.68 inches

Circumference = 2∏r, where ∏ = 3.14 and r = radius.

so

2 x 3.14 x 6 = 37.68"
