Now it says, if you add me to 2 less than myself, you can make it by the equation:
If you add me(x) to 2 less than myself (x-2), you get 14, so
x+(x-2)
Use Distribution Property, which means distribute the signs throughout the parentheses.
x+x-2=14. Combine the x's
2x-2=14 . Add 2 to both sides to get rid of -2 on one side
2x=16 Divide both sides by 2 to get rid of 2 in 2x
x=8
