Healing is usually very rapid and complete. The small "crater" left behind after the abnormal tissue is removed fills up quickly and normal skin grows over without delay.

Usually healing is complete after two or three weeks. Following the operation there is no pain, but most women experience some discharge and/or bleeding for up to two weeks and may need to wear a sanitary towel on or off for a couple of weeks.

Usually the cervix heals completely normally with no scarring or damage. Fertility is not affected, and because the tissue removed is relatively small there is usually no damage produced which could cause problems with subsequent pregnancy or childbirth.

Advice varies after loop excision procedures. This is the most common treatment. Large Loop Excision of the Transformation Zone (LLETZ), also called Loop Electro-Excision Procedure (LEEP).

Not being a gynaecologists (specilist in sports medicine) I am aware that many gynaecologists recommend their patients to avoid the following after LLETZ or LEEP.

You can have a bath/shower from the day of the treatment
You can return to work the following day if you feel well enough
Sexual intercourse is not advised for four weeks - or until the vaginal discharge ceases
Avoid using tampons until the vaginal discharge ceases
Avoid strenuous exercise for two to three weeks such as aerobics/running and other sports
Limit air travel if possible
Avoid any heavy lifting or carrying of heavy objects
Do not swim for two weeks - or until the vaginal discharge ceases
No vaginal douching until the vaginal discharge ceases.

Ask your doctor, he should have given you after care instructions regarding going back to normal activities.
