I got a book from a friend. It was a gift actually. and there was this suspicious stick in the interior side of the book's cover. when I removed the stick... as you can see in the photo, there was a weird thing! I wonder what could it be? could you guys help me out? could it be some kind of spying stuff or something?!

That's an anti-theft device. They use them in stores so people can't steal stuff. They run it over a magnet when you purchase it so it won't set off the alarms at the exit.

I believe that is actually just the electronic device that keeps the book from being stolen. It is in the book and would go off if someone tried to steal it from the store. I believe that it is deactivated when someone purchases a book at the front counter and the book is scanned on the machine under the counter.

That is an anti-theft device placed there by the book store. It would set off an alarm if it is not disabled at the checkout counter. Lots of clothing items and electronics have these in one form or another.

It is used so you don't shoplift that item. When you purchase that item the cashier will run it over a de magnifier and the alarm won't go off when you exit the store. Just leave it there because if you try to rip it off you might rip your book.

It's th sensor that some stores put in their products to prevent shoplifting. at the entrance of the store there will be a metal detector looking thing that will read that sensor and set off an alarm. I used to work in a video store and we put those in the movie boxes
