IN HISTORY, DECEMBER WAS NOT TWELVE TH MONTH BUT TEN TH MONTH AND 10 USED TO BE WRITTEN IN ROMAN LETTER/NUMBER AS "X". THEREFORE, CHRIST MAS, WHICH COMES IN DECEMBER, IS KNOWN AS X MAS.

Because years back the people who were not Christians went about a big tirade and protest that the word Christ should not be part of the Holiday and wanted to take it out. They decided to make it Xmas to show their athiest ways and it has stuck around since then in one form or another.

To the person who left a thumbs down, Nice One!! What I said is the true answer research it and may Santa Claus have mercy on youl!!

When the Christians were being persecuted, they weren't allowed to celebrate Christmas because it was a Christian holiday. They choose to celebrate it anyway, using the "code" Xmas. X is a cross, tilted.

There are a lot of great stories about Christians who still practiced despite the horrible consequences. A lot of our symbols that we use for things now came out of this era.

Because Christ in Greek is Xristos, therefore X is derived from the first letter.

Because "X" looks like a Christian cross (just tilted slightly)
