companionship but fear of loss of identity which usually happens; the man usually tries to control , slowly and over time ; take a look around and name five great relationships around you that have stood the test of some time; maybe we are just selfish and don't have to work at it; I don't know but I do know that the relationships that I think are the best viewed from the outside usually aren't

Companionship, security, not sure what you mean....even if you are in love everyone needs space.
Maybe you really dont want them in your life and prefer to be friends.
