I am quite impressed with the way the Yankees have chiseled away at a 14 1/2 game deficit to be only 2 1/2 games back at this late of a stage in September. If Boston continues to slide, indeed the division is within reach. Never say Never.

Not at all. The Yankees have a game in hand with 13 left to play whereas Boston only has 12. It's only 2 games in the loss column.

There is no doubt that Boston is looking over its shoulder and, as we all no, history has been rarely kind to them. Despite the Yankees short comings via this years pitching performances, their lineup is better than anyone else in baseball (both leagues).

I would not be surprised to see Boston, once again looking up at the Yankees by seasons end. Regardless of what happens in the American League, Boston cannot and will not beat either the Yankees or the Angels. Both are better teams than the Red Sox.

The difference in games is due to games won, and games lost, example - if you had a record of 72 wins and 50 losses, and another team had a record of 72 wins and 51 losses, the latter team would be 1/2 game behind you, now, when two teams that are close in records play each other, say for example, the Yankees and Red Sox, for each game won it's one complete game you would receive. If two teams are playing head to head, with a 21/2 difference, it would only require 3 wins by the trailing team to become the leading team. With say 10 games left in a season, it is not only possible for any team to make up a difference of 21/2 games, they could clearly overtake 1st place by a couple of games.

I don't think so at all. 2 1/2 with 11 games to go is not too much. If it was 5 or 6 games behind then a different story.

I don't think it is but in the context you have to have everything go right. You have to count on the team ahead losing and the team behind winning at the same time. Then there is the problem of keeping consistent enough for both teams.

I assume your are talking about the Yankees and while they could do it they have some tough games ahead. The Yankees still face the Orioles four more times and while a two game winning streak against them has helped there is still one more at home and three in Baltimore. Add to that after Toronto at home its 6 games on the road.

For Boston they still have to face the lowly Devil Rays on the road then have the A's and Twins at home. Two teams that are not exactly road blocks for the Red Sox.

It will certainly be interesting who wins but I still the Yanks will take the Wild card.

You can ask the Phillies, who blew a 6 1/2 game lead with 12 games to go (or something like that) back in 1964. The Cardinals almost blew a huge lead last year too.

Although the Phillies are trying to blow 11 run leads, like Monday night, the Mets lost 5 1/2 games in the last 6 nights. If the Mets blow this lead, don't be surprised if Willie Randolph is fired.

If we pull the same crap we did last night, the Yankees have a nice chance on taking the Division.

If we start playing to WIN some damn games, then no, the Red Sox have it in the bag.

Your on the road for the last 6, while we are on home turf.

I never give up on the Red Sox, but we can't continue to play like we have been, because of we do, we'll get swept by whoever we end up playing in the ALCS.

Not if the team with the deficit is the New York Yankees! The major problem for the Bronx Bombers is that their lat two series of the year are on the road...against Cleveland and Minnesota.

If you are talking about the Tigers I hope that the answer is NO!! But, they must absolutely be on top of their game, pull out the big guns, and hope that the Yankees make some oops!

Not with the way that my home team is imploding. 2 1/2 games isn't a lot.
