I'm not built like a fighter, I'm 5'5'' 140lbs... but I'm extremely athletic and fit with a six pack. I know my physical limitations and most people would probably win if they were to fight me, Anyways, would it make me a coward if say a guy, I don't care if he's smaller then me or bigger tried to fight me, and I just kinda ignore/don't acknowledge that person and just go smoke or listen to music. Now if he were to push me, I would just brush it off. If he was screaming or yelling, I'll just ignore him, and let him release his anger. The only way I'll throw a punch is if my life was in danger or if he's throwing it first. I'm not that big or strong, so all I have is my brain so I'll use that more often then my fist.
Would it make me a coward if I walked away from a fight?

Nelson Mandella once said that it is better to die on your feet than to live on your knees. Intelligent people dont start fights but if someone picks a fight with you, you should never back down as the other person will have won. If the other person is bigger or whatever there can still be ways to beat them and even if you lose the fight you will have gained respect for standing up for yourself and will deter others from picking a fight with you. If people think they can get away with being aggressive towards you people will always bully and pick fights with you

I think you are right to walk away from a fight. I think those that can do that actually diffuse a situation rather than make it worse. The ability to have that self control is an asset. Don't get me wrong i would always help someone out if i thought I could help and will always step in to do my bit. But the example you give I would do exactly the same and unless I had to use force i wouldn't.

It totally depends on WHY you are being goaded to fight.Insults can sting, and disrespect is difficult to ignore but my personal rules as to fight or not have nothing to do with being perceived as a coward.I will not tolerate being bullied and if you move as to harm or impede me I will engage swiftly and with no mercy. When someone picks a fight with another that is 'intent to do bodily harm' and absolute right for the "victim" to defend themselves with all their mortal being and is justification for seriously harming and even killing the aggressor. That is MY policy..you come at me and my ultimate purpose is to kill you, none of that "fair fight" BS...if you mix it up with me you better be prepared to pay the price.
There's a punk in Indiana with a broken spine that thought he'd take me...ask him if it was worth it.
Just protect you and yours, don't sweat the words.

No its not cowardice to walk away. Many professional fighters refuse to street fight unless it is self defense. As to your physical size. "its not the size of the dog in the fight, its the size of the fight in the dog" Speed and skill are more important than size. The greatest skill is picking when you will fight.

The correct aphorism for this is:
Discretion is the better part of valor.
Another good one is:
He who fights then runs away, lives to fight another day. But that's only if you GOTTA throw a punch.

I don't think it will make you look cowardly.
Just try not to get into a fight like that. Why don't you take a karate lesson, it will teach you how to fight and self diaplen.
I watched this show and they said if you were ever in a fist fight act like a loon. Go all creazy. It usally makes u look like a freak but it works.
Hope this helps.

Not at all. It just shows the other person that you don't glorify violence. Some of the greatest humanitarians in history practised passive resistance. I don't think you are a coward at all!

No, in fact in many sensible people's eyes it would make you a very good man - you fight conflict with peace and patience instead of responding violence and threat with the same. Good for you!
