she's been suffering from depression for a long time. after 13 years the doctors realised this and prescribed prozac. now prozac is not working. she's suffering from palpitation and panic attacks and anxiety and restlessness. had ecg many times but palpitation seem to settle down when near an ecg machine. at present when she gets these anxiety attacks with palpitations, she curls herself as though she's lonely and also she closes her fists and touches her heart. previous ecg results were ok.
there is a language barrier but i do my best to interprete everything she says to the doctor. i feel the doctors are not doing enough to get to the bottom of her problem.

Consultation with a psychiatrist is advised if depression persists or deepens, or occurs for no apparent reason. The three main treatments are Psychotherapy, Antidepressant drugs & Electrconvulsive therapy (ECT).
Psychotherapy may include psychoanalysis, behavioural therapy, group therapy, & help with problem-solving.
Antidepressant drugs, which aim to counteract the disturbance in the brain chemistry, are slow to work buteventually effective in about 85% of patients if taken in sufficient dosage for long enough.
ECT, given under general anaesthetic, is usually reserved for severe depression when other treatments have failed. It is safe, & studies have shown that it relieves severe depression more quickly than drugs. ECT may be life-saving, & the only side effect may be mild, temporary memory impairment.
Loving care, & reassurance by family & friends, can also be a great help.
The common side affects of Prozac are generally minimal. Nausea, drowsiness, sweating, tremor, tiredness, dry mouth, sleeplessness, impotence, weight loss.
The unusual side effects are- Headache, fever, palpatations, sweating, rash, blurred vision.
The severe but rare are(stop medication, consult doctor)- convulsions.
she could be schizophrenic, if so a doctor can confirm this.

Ask them to check her thyroid if they haven't already. The symptoms your wife is experiencing can be signs of a problem with the thyroid.
