Well, how about this: we had forgotten the Venizelos family! Apparently we have a come-back from that side too. Is anyone called Trikoupis, he would be a great next candidate for president of any of the big political parties!

Regarding the King, I don't agree. At least with the Papandreos etc. we get to choose and vote. AND they alternate, which makes them sensitive to the people's requirements. We've had democracy since 500 BC, we won't accept a regime that was imposed upon us (As for Byzantium, even then the Emperor was not necessarily inherited; we have so many cases that Emperors fell and others, favoured by the people, teh Senate or the Army took their place. Not exactly democratic, but following the Roman Republic model, at least theoretically).

Chloe, all over the world usually they have 2 choices, 2 major parties. In fact we have more choices, because there is a 20% of other parties. But even without that, the fact that there is another choice usually restricts the government, otherwise they would be "asydotoi". I don't blame them, if I were a monarch I would really take no interest in what the people think, I would do whatever I thought right for them. And this would be good, because I would do what is good for THEM, usually people do what is good for their own pocket...

zusje, I agree. However, the singers and actors don't seem to be as successful as the athletes... It seems that if you can play basketball well enough, you can also rule a Ministry or Municipality.

I am not saying they are related, but that is even wore if you think of it: I mean of all names, it had to be the name of a previous prime minister!!!
