Plenty - as long as fox et al are around to spin it the right way - and as long as most Americans think they live in a democracy and are free.
There's some sort of misapprehension that an election might change things - it won't, because both major parties are dominated by right-wing christians - and the system is set up so no genuine alternative party can arise.

Great video that sums up a lot of what I've read.
Neo cons Wolfowitz, Feith and Slocum who'd never set foot in Iraq and had no military experience made the decision to disband the army. It makes a lot of sense since Trotskyism underlies the neo con philosophy. A major tenet is that a society has to experience anarchy, tear down its old institutions, before it can rebuild itself. That's probably why Rumsfeld said "looting happens".
To answer your question, I think Americans will tolerate a lot more neo con buffoonery. Consider the top tier Republicans, any one of whom could be the next President: Giuliani, the authoritarian, Romney the businessman who will do anything to close a deal, and Thompson an apparently lazy guy who's remarkably uninformed and ill prepared.

Robert K, this was a very serous mistake to disband the Iraq army.
But the mistake has been made along with many others.
We have to overcome it at any price. If Iraq falls to radical Muslim control the world stage will become infinitely worse.
The Radical Muslims in Iran will attack the Jews who will use nuclear weapons to defend themselves.
Russia will protect Iran, and we will protect Israel.
The first domino is Iraq.
The last domino that can fall, is the world.

What I would really like is for all the media and politic-ans to get out of the war and let our men and women fight and win. Yes there are mistakes taking place(some say a lot), but I would like you to point out what war hasn't. Have you every saw documentaries on WWII? There were so many mistakes make but the media didn't plaster it on the front papers every day, didn't list how many men and women were kill each day, they weren't so negative.

It is amazing how those who have so little experience in military matters are the most pessimistic. Perhaps they should stop looking to their ridiculous expectations of what war is or should be. Each war is different. In each war, the enemy may be more different, more flexible, or more stubborn than the previous one. In order to win, you must believe you will win longer than he does.

BOTH SIDES ARE AWFUL, AND THE AMERICAN PEOPLE AGREE WITH ME. CONGRESS' APPROVAL RATING IS AT ITS LOWEST IN HISTORY, MUCH LOWER EVEN THAN BUSH'S (WHICH ALSO SUCKS). STOP WITH THE ONE SIDED HATRED. WE NEED TO DEMAND HONESTY FROM BOTH SIDES (MEAN WHAT YOU SAY AND SAY WHAT YOU MEAN), STOP THE OUT OF CONTROL SPENDING, STOP ALL EARMARKS, EXPECT CONGRESS AND ALL CITIZENS TO SHOW A LITTLE FRICKIN' PERSONAL RESPONSIBILITY FOR THEIR LIFE AND THE HEALTH AND WELLBEING OF THEIR FAMILY.
