One time i went to a party when I was about 3 and my mum dressed me in a yellow dress with a frilly collar and bright green polkadots!
Shameful!
And I had a pair of bright green leggings that I also look back on with pride! =]

Yes we had a horrid brown school uni. I was very tall so was all too short then began to develop and it was worse not just old fashioned long skirts but big grown up circular ones and a coat worse than the rest given by a well meaning aunt into which i cringed and bundled it round my middle like a sack. lol I never have been keen on brown or woolly brown coats ever since only recently got myself brown skirt and top very nice but not worn much just trying to overcome the repugnance as it seems silly 40 years or more on!

Yes, I remember it well, and I have the photo to prove it. This was in the 1940s, and all the town churches met for the annual 'Whitsuntide Walk'. All the other little girls had light summer dresses and sandals - and there was I, complete with hat, heavy coat and black lace-up shoes.

I'm now in my 60s and that photo still makes me cringe!

I was born in the fabulous 70's where style was absent for most of the decade.. I remember my mother dressed me in "maize" colored cordoury's that had orange/brown giraffe's on them ! With a brown t-shirt.. I believe I have pictures ! Also, since we didn't have much money my mom learned how to sew and she made me a shirt- which was a cute calico print from the left over material that she made into a shower curtain for the bathroom.. I have a picture of me standing with the shirt on in the bathroom.. LIke everyone has clothing that matches the shower curtain !!! My favorite shirt was a nano nano shirt w/ rainbow suspenders from MORK/MINDY.. It was brown w/ white letters... I was around 5, how dorky !

Constantly. My mum and dad weren't well off, so she used to buy a lot of mine and my brother's clothes from second hand shops and jumble sales. I can still feel the shame and the agony of having some other kid at school look me up and down and say "That used to be mine".

my mum; thinks its great to start a convo with anyone who will listen with 'when my sarah was wee' which isnt a good start at all. so ther are loads of thingsi could put here but il just give you a few i can bear to remember.

lol my mum thought that thosefrilly pant that you could put over babies nappies wer the cutest so i was dressed in them constantly - she used to let me run about in them - and now that im 19 and we see people we used to know out and about i always get 'the last time i saw you was when you wer running about in your frilly nickers!' seriously!!!

my mum also thinks its great to tell people how i was always really tom boyish and when she bought me these 'lovely dresses' i used to tear the frills of them - i also refused to wear pink so everyone thought i was a boy!

i used to hate those pants they were called chords i think they had those wierd chords going down the legs my mum used to make me wear those i hated them i was only about six though. on my first day of pre-school i wanted to wear this racing car belt i had, it had a huge steel racing car belt buckle. when i asked my mum if i could wear it she said yes and started putting it on halfway through she asked why i wanted to wear it and i said, if i get in a fight i can take it off and hit them with it. she took it off after i said that. that was the day i learnt, parents are on a need to know basis. any way i just thought id share cause i think it is funny.

My mum doesn't have a lot to answer for (apart from batwing jumpers and puffball skirts!).

It was my gran.

She used to make clothes for my sister and me. We're four years apart. It was the 70s. It was horrendous.

Catsuits. Quilted waistcoats. Stripey cardigans.

It's a wonder we're still sane (I write, as I suck my thumb and rock slowly back and forth...)

My Mum once went on a shopping trip to London when I was about 6 or 7. She brought me back one of those umbrella hats and made me wear it on a rainy day, EVERYONE looked at me!!!
