According to people who have been there and done that (had Near Death Experiences) you pop out of your body and suddenly realize that your body isn't all there is to you.
Then you can see and hear people around you but they cannot see or hear you. You can travel to any place in an instant just by thinking about it.
If you follow a bright light up a tunnel you reach another dimension where things are more wonderful than they are on Earth. Often they meet loved ones who have passed on, or some all-loving being (angel, Jesus, God, etc.)
Sometimes they have a "life review" where they are able to see the impact of their actions upon others during the lifetime.
Then they are either told that it is not their time yet and they have to go back or they are given the choice to stay or go back. When they return to their bodies they have horrible pain usually, and realize that they did not suffer from any physical issues while they were out of their bodies.
Afterwards, they report be "more spiritual, but less religious" and more conscious of how important it is to enjoy life and be kind to others. They also have less fear of death.

My only knowledge about death comes from the unfortunate circumstances of being present when a few people died, and it seems to me that dying is done just as life is... in a myriad of ways.
Other than that I have no idea what it's like to die and don't understand why you ask. If there is a good reason, you might consider including it next time around.

One thing is certain we shall all be going in the same direction.
However depending on the circumstance of ones departure it can be an extreme experience or a pleasant one.
I truthfully and trust when it is my time it will be on the pleasant scale.
Many people believe in a Life after the event, not being a religious person (however I respect every religion for their own merits, as I lived in the Far East for about 5 years with Buddhist,Hindu and Muslim friends.
Logic tells me that "once you have gone you have gone"...so be it!!!

It's a once in a lifetime experience. But seriously, how many stories do you see about people being revived after 5 and 10 mins under water, and being 'brought back' after heart attacks and stuff. A few claim to have 'experiences' but most don't. For a few minutes they were effectively dead and would have stayed that way were it not for medical intervention. So i'm presuming if there is an afterlife it should start straight away and these people should experience it for the few minutes they are effectively dead. Seeing as most don't I presume being dead is like being deeply asleep but not dreaming. Can't remberer what thats like? Thats because its nothingness as is death. Tough.

Everything around you disappears and the angel of death arrives and tells you its time to leave. You walk towards your grave being cheered by angels that you did well in the test Gods put you through then you lie in your grave on a mattress of rose petals the air is scented with sweet smelling roses. Your grave is full of light and peace!
thats wot i believe only if you've got a good soul!

It's however you believe it to be. I have experienced the transition of death and it was very wonderful. I was still me just no one could see or hear me, except the other people in the crash. It was peaceful and I could go anywhere just by thinking of a place or person. There was no fear no pain and I was able to help the others who died with me in the crash.

I suspect it varies per the situation. The number of folks that were on their way, but got revived has to be limited, but the conditions surely have to be widely varied, don't you think? For me, it was comfortable, but with a kind of mild annoyance, like I forgot to do something.

Each and one of us dies in an different way, with a different feeling. Depends on your morality, personality, and what you have done in your life. It depends on your belief system as well. It is quite hard to think how it is like? - well no and yes.
