People move to Cleveland to be either near their family or for a job transfer. Detroit, Buffalo and Cleveland are cities in decline. Their golden age has long passed. The poverty, crime and unemployment is of major concern. Cleveland wishes to be "The New American" city but all you have to do is drive through it to see the stark reality. Do your research online. There are MANY other cities in US that can offer a better life for two young men.

I agree with the person who said to get a job lined up before you come. Since you're thinking of coming next summer, you may want to take that time get some training in the medical field, that way you will be guaranteed a job. (you know how they have those 8 month programs to be a registered home health aid, or something of the like?) I'm sure you'll want to live in a decent part of town, so may I suggest the suburbs. Cleveland Heights is a nice suburb, with a lot of college students living in the Coventry area. Prices range anywhere between $350(living in an attic) to $850 for rent. Basic cable is like $25 or $35, and some places include lights,(very rare) you can get a phone for as low as $8 depending on your income. I don't know about the cost of living in Cleveland, but I can tell you that prices for rent in East Cleveland will sound very appealing, but its not a safe place to live.
Check out the Cleveland.com for more info on jobs and places to live. Best of luck to you.

I definately think so! This is "The New American City." So much is going on lately. There's huge RTA bus line being added. The Art Museum is under a 100+ Million dollar renovation. There's so much! I think that the suburbs are a lot safer. You can get apartments downtown, but I don't know how much that would be. But, my sister used to live in Lakewood's apartments, a city on the west side of Cleveland. It's right against the Lake!!! In fact, the road is called Edgewater. She lived in apartments called Lake House and Marine Towers. They are both really tall high rises and offer really great views of downtown and the Lake....especially during the winter and when a storm is coming in, oh and when the Blue Angels do the Air Show. That is really cool. The marine towers are more expensive apartments. Both have pools. Also, they are right in Lakewood known as the "City of Bars." You and your friend will really like Lakewood!! If you have a good job lined up there then yes Cleveland is OK. Unemployment and foreclosures are high there as the auto industry and other manufacturing jobs have left the area. Rent should be pretty cheap compared to most parts of the US. I would not live in the downtown area because of high crime and its pretty dirty. Live in the suburbs. Cleveland is a lot of fun in the summer. The winter can be brutal and the East side gets heavy lake effect snow. If you land a good job then you should enjoy the area. Good Luck!!

Dude...piece of advice...dont move without a better education. Moving anywhere with a HS Diploma or GED is suicide. There are plenty of jobs for a hard worker though. What is it you want to do...and check Cleveland.com for jobs...Cleveland is a great area, I love it...I just think you may want to consider what you are getting into. The cost of living is fairly inexpensive and I agree...live in the Western Suburbs. North Ridgeville is a nice Western suburb, close to all freeways, and 20 min. to downtown. Apartment still in the 600 range/month. Not to over the top like Westlake/Cleveland Heights. Has about 35,000 people. Anyway...good luck. WIsh you all the best with your move and all.

Anyone with common sense knows theres bad parts to every city. Clevelands not a dump. Living in the suburbs might take your experience away, I lived in the west suburbs for years and the commute wasn't worth it. My dad lives in Downtown and pays roughly 500-600 monthly for a nice nice apartment. Live close to the city.... you won't want to pump up that automobile every week to drive to the boring suburbs.....

Cleveland is OK if you like to settle for second best. If you're two young guys and you have the lovely option of going anywhere you like...go somewhere else.

no. Cleveland is a small town posing as a big city.
Go to Columbus. Cleveland is one of the poorest , if not the poorest, USA city.
Columbus jobs are better and offers more on all levels. if you decide to work or go to school, COLUMBUS is a big city that wont chew you up.
Clevelad.s job market is very poor if you dont have an in or if you dont want to do sales. Good luck!!

I moved from Cleveland to the suburbs. From the suburbs to the Akron suburbs. Cleveland isa dump, will always be a dump. No one wants to live there. Got to Columbus before coming to Cleveland. I guarantee you won't want to leave, it's beautiful.
