I am inclined to agree that someone might be here already. But the fact is he/she probably going to introduce something way unbelievable in our times.
E.g. In the past, people believe the Earth of the centre of the universal etc, then it was disputed and those who advocated other opinions were heretics etc
So let's be open minded about incredible ideas and theorems and maybe the genuis will pop out.

I think there are a lot of genius' around us, just what made those guys so influential and major was that they discovered something new, something we didn't know that changed the way we think. We now live in a world where there isn't much left to discover, so the next einstein or whoever will be the next guy to discover something that will change the world's perspective on life. It's like Elvis, everyone wants to know who the next Elvis will be. I say there already are, just because Elvis created rock, he is the most famous. When someone creates the newest form of major music that will take the world by storm, that will be your next Elvis.

Steve Hawking hasn't discovered much that has actually panned out.
The greatest theoretical physicist of the 20th century was probably Paul Dirac for combining relativity and quantum mechanics. Einstein comes in a close second for general relativity (although some might put him #1 for contributing to many areas of physics).

I don't really admit Einstein as genious. Half of his work on relativity is done by Riemman and Poincare (these were genious and modest people) and the other half by Lorentz, Ricci and Grossmann. Einsten is just a figure to indicate the application of the pure Lorentz-Riemannian geometry, but it is so practically inapplicable...The next genious will give the result on the true nature of gravitation, not just stating "spacetime is Riemannian manifold" and probably it is not really like that.

People work in teams of scientists nowadays, so its not big news when a breakthrough in science is reached. The news always refers to them as, for example "A biochemistry team of scientists at Cambridge University today announced....".

I thought you were the next genius. At least that's what you believe, isn't it? And all those people who automatically answer Stephen Hawking. How sheepish are they? They haven't even read his bloody books!

There are a lot of geniuses out there (myself included) but as for which one will manage to develop the theory of everything we're looking for (or at least something better than what we've got) is impossible to predict.
