I'm joining the British Army. Does anyone have any training tips for me??

I have been to the careers office and they say i need to be able to run a mile and a half in 12 minutes. Do at least one pull up/heave and need to be able to do push ups. Any tips?

Also, is there anywhere i can find a training friend, as all my friends are really girly and wont train with me to help me out.

Thanks in advance.

Hiya Im in the army. If you are worried about selection...dont be!! its piece of piss. you have a numeracy test, medical, have to carry to 20kg jerry cans for a longish distance, have to do the mile AND A HALF run in 12 mins, have a lesson on grenades and then a test on what you have learnt, then team building thingys and then yur interview!! tis easy stuff! must be if i got in.

o yer and u go the gym and have to test your body strength. pull ups this thing were u try and pull away frm sutin to test your back strength, you have to lift weights above your head!

tis all quite easy stuff!

where u from??

You'll get in to the army no problem - they are desperate for recruits. But, do NOT go into the army as a regular squaddie; if you've got no brain, lots of muscle and energy and are happy to only get 5 hours sleep per night then fine, but they are treated like **** and get the worst of everything. Get a skills-based job instead, you'll be doing less work for more money and have more opportunity for promotion.

Also, you'll have to save up a couple of thousand pounds to buy equipment; the standard sub-standard kit you will be provided with is like something out of Dad's Army - and I swear that's not an exaggeration. It's ridiculously heavy (and you don't want to leave the army 10 years from now with your back f****d up; there is absolutely no compensation or medical aftercare in the army) and shamefully poor quality.

Personally, I advise against joining the army. The Royal Navy or Airforce offer better training, more money, and higher career prospects.

Before I went in I did lots of running, up hill.
I also made sure I could do 50 pushups and 50 sit ups.
Also make sure you can easily swim 400 meters.

This helped in the first 3 weeks as I suffered less from the physical punishment than most recruits.

Make sure when you do go that you have bought the best running shoe you can afford. This will reduce the chance of shin splints.

Hope this is useful.

jus go jogging 2 to 3 times a week start off slowly gradualy build it up ...... i would be aiming to get 2mile then your stamina will increase and keep going furthrer once your o.k with the distance........ u whant to work a little bit on your pecs and deltoid muscles (shoulders) and back muscles for the press up pull ups...... if u get a partner tell the instructor at the gym what u need to do for the army...... he/she if any good will sort you a decent program out which will help u ......

Hi Tanya

is the careers office a combined one with the navy and royal marines? if so ask your army recruiter to ask the marine recruiter for their pre entry training regime it will have a list of exercises to get you semi fit before joining. obviously you don't need to be fit enough to join the marines but the recruiter will help you out with advice on what to do he might even be able to team you up with one of their candidates to train with

I think you'd need to have your head looked at - joining the army and then moving on to Afghanistan!!
