Then you need to analyze how you are studying with respect to the exam results. If you are just collecting the information and not organizing it (in your head and on paper) then if the exams expect you to relate the parts of what you have studied, you will fail. If the exams expect you to spit back factoids from learning, then you need to look for what kinds of factoids are sought and identify them in the lectures (what is written on board?) and in reading (chapter and section headings).
If nothing else, talk to the teacher(s) and ask them for guidance in improving your study skills and test taking skills - they may give you the path to success by mentioning the areas they stress on the exams.

This is how its always worked for me. I make sure to do something fun while I am studying. So I study for 10 minutes, then watch TV for ten, then study, etc. I usually make notecards of definitions or things I need to know, but in the end I dont actually use them. Writing something down is a good way to remember it. But I def wouldnt suggest studying for hours and hours doing nothing else like a lot of people do. Dont make studying a chore, make it casual. Try and relate things to your own life.

Almost every college has a course or a center you can go to and learn better learning skills. If it is just psych that is tripping you up maybe its that teacher or text. Talk to the teacher to see what you can change.
