they're the two stable villains. It relies upon on the action picture. Walken is wacky and Nicholson is frightening. So if the action picture demands a loopy frightening villain then Nicholson. If the villain is meant to be wacky or rather off beat then Walken.

I think it's just you. I've seen him looking quite warm at times. Plus I just think Nicholson is one cool old dude.

Probably why they cast him as the Devil in the Witches of Eastwick.
